I have a Minka-Aire 52 inch in mine.
3 speeds with remote control, and reversible.
Here's an older picture.

My ceiling fan in my shop is inop.

I've probably hit the blades with something I'm working on about a half a dozen times in the last 20 year. I have a 10' ceiling and the fan is on a 12" pole.

The last time it hit a piece of steel pipe I was carrying and balance went crazy and I stopped turning it on for fear it'd come apart onto a project car below.

If I had it to do over, I'd look for a caged oscillating fan that'd mount to the wall

I have a standard 52" fan mounted to the ceiling with no extension pole in a garage with 10 foot ceiling. Keep the fan away from any areas where you will work with tall items. Two fans installed at opposite sides of the room would be nice.

Running the fans on medium or higher keeps the mosquitos from getting to you and makes for a nice breeze.

My shop is 28ft x 30ft x 10ft ceiling.

I have a "commercial" 3-bladed ceiling fan purchased from Lowes. It's been running 24/7 for nearly 4 years now.

Can't remember the brand name, but it was recommended by GJ'ers when I built my shop. Couldn't find the discussion in the archives either.

Nothing fancy, has a wired controller, but the blade design is aerodynamic (twisted like a propeller). Low speed is all it needs, high speed will sweep the floor!

Can look for the manual if you need me to.

I put four (4) 56" Westinghouse 3-blade ceiling fans in my shop. The shop portion of mine is 40x50 with 16' ceilings. I have the two back ones on one variable speed switch and the front two on a separate variable speed switch.

On hot days like we have had lately they work well to keep some air moving around the shop.

Here is what I installed.

Here's what I use.

5 fans, 3 of the white ones from Lowes, the other two are curb finds.

Barn is 20X24, 8- maybe 8 1/2 ft ceilings.

I can move some air,in winter with heat on and what we have now. Nice and comfortable. One of the fans is not shown.

just my 2, ymmv

I have a 60x40 shop,12' ceiling and run 2 industrial fans from Home Depot all year long to circulate air. the fans are the 3 blade 60" reversible and the cost was $69 each 5 years ago. They come with a 4 speed wall controller which is great. Never a problem, these are good fans, and do the job they were designed for...highly recommended.

I have 3 right now, headed for 4.

I really like these Westinghouse 56in/142cm, similar to Zmotorsports. It has a 5 speed wall controller, however is non reversible.

I cut both downrods to 6" instead of 12" supplied to keep the fans higher up. One of these is directly over where eventually I hope to park my boat/trailer to dry it out after excursions. The other is inside a plastic curtained area to contain grinding dust but may also limit airflow.

I also have this one which has jumped up about $140 in price...

Not as impressed, despite the 84 inch diameter, the blades don't have a lot of pitch. It has a 6 speed remote and reversible, probably the one I will run year round on low. I don't think I would buy that one again at the new price point....

I just installed 2 of the 56" Canarm High-Performance Industrial-Grade Reversible Ceiling Fans with controller. I have a 24 x 24 with 12ft ceilings and they put out a lot of air.

In my 30' x 32' x 12' shop, I have 3 - 60" 3 bladed fan from Home Depot ($89 ea.). I keep the a/c on 86 deg even in 105 deg days. According to HD, they flow 9600 cfm.

I ordered them and the controller from Northern Tool. You can search and pick up a coupon code online to save another $20.

Is this the controller you used?

I want to put 2 in a 30x40
With 12 foot ceiling to help pull heat down also. Any suggestions on placement? I was thinking about one over each bay just slightly towards the rear of the building. Or would I be better to offset them?

That is the controller I used. I placed my fans in the middle of the building, 4ft from the walls, on both sides. They put out a good amount of air, but I would do at least 4 fans in a building that size unless you only need air movement in certain areas.

I'm looking at replacing my shop fan because it doesn't reverse and no remote. I looked at a 72" and 84" fan. No idea what the ceiling height is, but I had to use the fork to install the fan in there now. What length of down rod is recommended?

In my old shop I had 2 ceiling fans. To this day I cannot recall them ever being shut off. They have been running since Dec 17 1999.

You'll have to excuse me, I don't know what kind they are.

I liked them for that shop.
