I've got one cobbled up in our garage along with central heat and air and it works fine.

We've had them in all of our houses since the early 80's and I've never seen a blade come off one.

One of the best additions I’ve made to my two-car garage. I leave mine on low 24/7 except when I pull a wet car in or want extra airflow when it’s hot.

When it’s raining, I turn it up to the second of four speeds and both the wet car and floor are completely dry by the morning and humidity is a thing of the past.

Same as a lot of guys on here. Two in the front half of the garage. Nothing special...plain white, 3-speed, reversible builders-grade fans from Lowes. I just have to be careful not to stick a rod tip in them.

It would probably work perfect for when you are welding and grinding etc. When you need a good flow of air.

Unless the welding process use shielding gas, then still air works best so it doesn't blow away the gas.

It's my furnace. We put a new one in the house a couple of years ago and I was going to get rid of that one but could not give it away, so I ended up putting it in the garage. The vents underneath are where the heat comes out because it is a downflow furnace.

You have a really nice setup, and an AWESOME Air compressor!

There is no doubt that ceiling fans work well. But they also effectively lower your ceiling height so you need to be careful if you do a lot of work in your garage. Personally, I prefer a large fan in one corner of the garage blowing across to the opposite corner. It gives me a nice breeze and it doesn't affect my ceiling height.

One thing I have not seen noted in this thread is the difference between an indoor ceiling fan and an outdoor one. If your garage is exposed to outdoor conditions (not direct rain or snow but rather high humidity, hot, dusty at times, etc.) you will be better served getting an outdoor classified fan which is made with materials that are less subject to corrosion, etc. I pooh-poohed this when I put fans on my porch but went with outdoor rated fans anyway, now many years later I'm glad I did because indoor fans would have been "eaten up" by the humidity dust, and bugs, etc.

So just taking a spare indoor fan and putting it in the garage may work for a while, but maybe not, depending on where you are.

I have ceiling fans in 3 of my buildings. They distribute air and air movement feels good while working, while keeping the floor dry.

Mine are just older ceiling fans that came out of the house when we moved in in '93 and I put them in the garage in '99. They been running 24/7/365 ever since. The only thing I have done is either reverse them in the winter or speed them up / slow them down, but never off.

Thanks Garageman, but it doesn't look like that anymore. I've added some tin to the walls, painted the walls sort of maroon and painted my ceiling black. A little different from what the pic shows there. I also got rid of the furnace and added a Hamilton 45,000btu hanging furnace. I have a lot more things to do also. I need to finish putting tin on the rest of the walls, I need to run some air lines, get my trim painted, and just some other little odds and ends in there. You can see in my signature what some of the garage looks like at the present.

As far as ceiling fans go, I need to take those down, sand them, and paint over the brass. I can't stand the looks of brass as a house fixture. I also need to get a large cattle fan to put in the garage. Currently on real hot days, I have a furnace blower that I use to move the air around, but the belt is not guarded on it and both the dog and the cat has damn near caught their tail in it. Not a good thing :scared: So I only run it if I know they won't be in there. TSC has the large fans on sale so I may pick one up from there.

I installed a 60 inch Hampton Bay three blade industrial fan from Home Depot. This fan is highly rated. It's about $70. I put it on a multi-speed controller. This thing moves a lot of air. Even mounted high at a point where my garage ceiling is about 15 feet, you still can't run it on high without things blowing around. Lowest speed moves plenty of air.

THIS THREAD discusses the 60 inch Hampton Bay industrial fan p/n 526-012

I have three of them installed, work great. The price keeps creeping up, I think they are about $82 now.
