Ceiling fan inside a recessed box in the ceiling?

Would this still work? I am trying to have the fan not protrude at all. I have a future bridge crane to install and a current forklift. I am having trouble with condensation and the floor fans can't seem to keep up, I think the ceiling fans will be much better. I may have to do the same thing for the lights.

With air inlet above the fan, it would work to flush them with ceiling. Can't have air out without air in.

It won't pull the air around? having an inlet above would make things worse, I don't want the attic air in the shop, it is hotter. I wonder if I made the sides 45 degree angles if it would grab air from below.

Angled in just might be enough to do the job.

Also, duct the air through ceiling vents just like an A.C. trunk, but from a fan placed remotely.

I never thought of that, I don't know if it will move enough air though. A 48" or 56" industrial fan moves a lot of air. I guess I will have to experiment with it. I want them to be centered and my ceiling is only 12'6" so they either need to be recessed or something like you suggested. Would you just use a squirrel cage type fan setup? I am envisioning an inlet vent on one side of the shop and exhaust in multiple areas. Interesting idea, I wonder if I could later incorporate the ducts for an actual AC system. Typical GJ making my life better and harder all at the same time.

How about use box fans and duct them to draw in air in one area and dump it in one or two areas to have air movement

What do you have for a ceiling? Do you have room to recess large fans in the ceiling without causing structural problems? In my garage if I were to try and recess a huge fan in the ceiling I would have to cut pretty deep into the bottom of some of the trusses in order to make room and I really don't that is a good idea structurally. In my case I am sure it could be done safely, but it would no doubt take quite a bit of restructuring just to get it to pass inspection. For myself, I plan to install a central air-conditioning system in the garage rather than try to use fans.

We did it; 60" hole, 48" fan. Had a HUGE resonance problem but blew plenty of air. Made whacking noises like a helicopter driving forward at full acceleration. Whomped as bad as the back windows down on a chevy four door truck [you guys KNOW they do it, it'll pop a vessel if you 'tune' those windows just right]. It did alright on low....

Vent it from above not the side.
YMMV

So my guess is you guys had it take a 90? I have a smaller fan, I think it is 30" but it is designed as an attic or whole house exhaust fan. I ordered a new one for the back wall, only a 24" variable speed one.
