Maybe the great GJ's can help me I have a 48" hunter fan above our bed. it has the light fixture on it. It does not have pull chains but rather a battery operated remote to change the fan speed and the turn the lights on and off or even dim them if you want. It also is connected to my wall switch and when you first flip the switch the light and fan will come on then you use the remote to turn it off.
Well the light quit working so I replaced the 2 bulbs nothing :willy_nil but I noticed that when I flip the switch 1 bulb will try to turn on but only for a second or blink of an eye .

anyone have any ideas? I tried calling hunter they want a model number and getting to it is just about impossible

I would think that the remote control unit in the fan has gone bad. If you take the fan down, you will usually find the remote unit in the domed cover against the ceiling.

If you have recently installed Compact Flourescent Lamps, they can sometimes not work well in remote powered fans. My CFLs were dim and flickering when i first installed them and i rewired the fan to use the wall switch for operating the light and left the motor speed control on the remote unit intact. This prevented the remote unit electronics from interfering with the power to the CFLs.

It's the wattage limiter, a Gubment mandate on all ceiling fans a few years back. Remove it, and just hook together the 2 wires it tied into. On a Hunter it looks like this:

If it's the remote module, they're a piece of cake to swap (5 wire nut connections). Mine went out after a storm and my fan and lamp wouldn't flicker or come on at all, so it might be that wattage limiter, but I am no electrician.

I saw this while searching but only saw it on chain models

I have no pull chains at all, the fan and the remote work meaning I can change the speed of the fan which is a fixed speed. the light I could hold the button on the remote and dim the light or turn it on and off hunter wants the model number. problem is fan is above my bed which is an old school water bed so moving it is not an option. I guess I'm going to have to pull the dam thing down just to get the model #

Were the lamp unit is on the fan, take it apart. Should be 3 screws. Take a picture of it and post it. It might be in it an be able to remove it.

Try to get the parts specific to your fan.
Lowes gave me a "universal" replacement transmitter and receiver to repair a failed fan receiver under lifetime warranty.
The universal requires setting the mechanical switches to high speed and max light.
The remote then "gives back" a little, some. or most of the speed or light.
