The ceiling fan lights are out after I replaced the switches in a guest bedroom. The switches that control the fan and light are side by side as usual.
The old switches were not grounded. The fan switch had the hot coming from the wall and looped around the fan switch hot post then into to the light hot post. I cut the looped hot wire and 'jumpered' it from the fan hot post into the light hot post. So hot is coming from the wall into/through the fan switch and reaches the light switch. Both switches are now grounded.
However... the fan switch works but the light switch doesn't. When I first turned it on, the lights lit for an instant then went out. Did I blow a small ballast or something in the fan light housing? The mini-post LED bulbs seem to have a ballast in their base. A known good bulb from another fan does not work in this fan and the bulbs from this fan work in another fan. The light/fan is a HD Hampton Bay.
