Ceiling Fan Motors

Long story short I got three ceiling fan motors..

1. The original with a bad bearing.
2. Craigslist find that won't work because it doesn't have the right shaft end.
3. One my neighbor gave me that I think I can make work if I can figure out the wiring.

The issue is that every one of these has different colored wires.

1. The original has Red, Yellow, Orange, Brown.
2. "Craigslist" has Yellow, Brown, White, Blue, Gray
3. The "neighbors" has Red, Yellow, White, Purple

Good grief are there no standards??

Why the Craigslist unit has 5 wires I'm not sure, but really not important because I can't use it. Only mention because there doesn't seem to be any wire color standards.

The original was 3 speeds with reversing, ie 4 wire. It is a Craftsmade, at least 25 years old.

The neighbors is by a manufacturer now out of business apparently, and that has no internet presence. I do have a manual for it, but it is no help.

So if I assume that Red & Yellow have the same function on both motors, would anyone have an educated guess on the final two colors? Orange & Brown vs. White & Purple?

And what if White is really the new Red?!

The other issue I got is this old wire connector. The "light kit" on my old ceiling fan also houses the controls. So I have to wire the new motor into these controls. The pic shows the upper half of the nylon housing, and one of the old wire crimp-pins. Doing a search I haven't been able to find these exact pins. I'm guessing it would also require a special crimping tool. Anyone know anything about these pins? Where to get them, and what kind of tool is used to crimp? Wire gauge is 18, & 20 or 22.

The connector is almost certain a Molex or AMP or something relatively "standard". Mouser Electronics will have everything you need someplace, but you'll have to hunt for it -- their site's enormous.

Really not enough info to help. Are the wires you're talking about from the motor winding or from the stem where it connects to the ceiling? Most fans the motor wires go to the switch kit on the bottom where the speed and direction control is. From there 3 wires going up through the stem. 1 for the neutral usually white. One for the fam usually black or red. And one for the light usually blue. And a bare or green for the ground.

For the connector its a9 position molex style connector. Trying to find one half of it could be problematic especially an older off brand connector.

You can obtain a new one both halves from Radio Shack. The proper crimping tool would cost more than a new fan. So in that case you solder.o

Ceiling fans are simply not that expensive. While I admire the willingness of anyone to keep things working, and I certainly try to do the same when I can, it is many times better to simply scrap what you have, and start over.

I'm doing it out of necessity unfortunately. Oh how I would love to just buy a new set-up.
