I have a Hunter ceiling fan thats about 4 years old. It has a wall mounted remote the controls both the fan and the light. The wife was home last night and thought the bulb burn out (said it kind of clicked), anyway I checked the bulbs and they are fine and the fan is still functioning. So I'm hoping there is some kind of fuse on the light itself but I thought I would ask here first before I jump into it.

There's no fuse. Sounds like a malfunction with either the remote or the receiver inside the fan.

some models have a pull chain for the light - those little assemblies that house the pull chain mechanism often house the contacts for the light. Pretty sure you can replace them. Jsut test for voltage before and after the pullchain assembly to see if that's it/

Is it a wireless remote? If so, I'd agree the remote has failed. Electronics can be expected to fail much sooner than mechanical parts. I have 8 ceiling fans in my house and garage. One of them came with a wireless remote. The wireless remote failed the first year. I removed it and that fan and all the others without the electronics still work years later.

The remote receiver probably lives in a unit behind the ceiling can. If you drop that down, you can get a good look at it. If its black and crispy, you may need to get a new remote set.

What's the warranty on your fan?

Sorry, I was away. It is wireless remote. When it happened the light had been on for about an hour and then the lights just went out without anything being touched. Not sure about the warranty my filing system is a disaster. I believe the box on the fans had said Lifetime warranty but I would imagine they have a million exclusions in the fine print.

Low battery in the remote will cause strange happenings. Have two remote fans and when the ghosts show up I change the batteries. Usually cures the problem.
