Ceiling fan wiring help

I need a hand getting my ceiling fans wired again. Previous owner had them wired and they didn't work right.

Switch has:
M - Grey
A - Red
L - Black

Fan has:
M - Grey
A - Red
N - White

(The fan leads run up the stem of the fan and hook into junction box)

I have 3 solid copper wires going from switch to fan and I obviously need to tie in power somehow (Black, White, Ground) which is up by the fan.

Any clue how to wire this?

Thanks!
Scott

Nope. 3 low voltage wires from switch to fan, that's it. Power is in ceiling. I have the power in ceiling. I googled the hell out of it and I never ran into this particular setup. I think it's more of an industrial application rather than a typical home setup.

Just to add a little more info the switch is a 4 position switch (off, low, med, high). There is no light.

Assuming the power feeds from the switch up to the fan? The white wire in the ceiling SHOULD be coded for hot (tape, marker, etc).

The other wires may depend on the make/model of your fan. A quick Google search came up with this:

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=howTo&p=Improve/InstallCeilingFan.html#8

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=howTo&p=Improve/InstallCeilingFan.html#8

The white should be a neutral and the black should be the hot.

Other than that.....

Are you sure that the low voltage is not for a remote switch that you may not have gotten with it? Also what type of ceiling fan is it? (Brand name)

You are right, I stated that wrong. It should have been "if the power comes in from the ceiling, the white wire should be coded for hot." As in this diagram.

Switch has:

L - Black

Fan has:
M - Grey
A - Red
N - White

So are you suggesting Grey to Grey, Red to Red, Fan White to power white, switch black to power black?

Does anyone have any clue what MAN and MAL stand for?

Thanks again!

Hey Thanks... had a plumber stop by and he suggested hooking it up to some PVC... maybe I'll try an electrician.

Not sure M or A but L would be line voltage N would be neutral
I would try it like you stated:

So are you suggesting Grey to Grey, Red to Red, Fan White to power white, switch black to power black?

Fan has: *********************Switch has
M - Grey --------------------------- M Grey
A - Red ---------------------------- A Red
N - White to junction box neutral****L - Black to Junction box power

Also any name tag on fan?

I haven't tried it yet... waiting for mud, tape, texture and paint before I start re-installing my fixtures. I will keep you posted hopefully within the next month.
