Ceiling fan with conduit?

So I decided to use surface mounted EMT to add outlets to the garage in the new house. My question is about mounting a ceiling fan. I’m planning to run my conduit from the wall control to the fan and then mount a 4” box that the fan ball hanger bracket will be mounted to. Any issues with this approach? Or a better way to do this? To seal the box I was going to use a flat cover with a 1/2” knock out in the middle, sandwiched between the box and the fan hanger. Thoughts?

If you are talking about using a normal residential ceiling fan, just surface mount a octagon fan rated ceiling box. The fan bracket will mount to the 10/32 screws and the canopy will cover the box, no need to use a flat cover. You will be able to bring your conduit into the side of the box. Be sure to mount the box to something solid.

Got my conduit run yesterday. Thought I had some wire to get the fan connected and at least pull the wire to the switch, but no such luck. Maybe tomorrow once my supply house opens.
