Ceiling fan

Hi I am installing a ceiling fan on old construction. I want to use two light switches for more control. I was told in order to wire the ceiling fan to two switches I need 14/3. I happen to have 14/2 is there another way of going about this? I was also told to get my power off of a receptacle does that sound ok to you guys? thanks in advance

If you use 14/2 you'll need to have two runs. One for the light and one for the fan to have them switched individually. Taking power from a wall outlet is okay but if the wall outlet is on a 20 amp circuit then the wiring to the fan also needs to be good for 20A which means #12 wire.

Cool, just curious the outlet switch leg has one available hot slot. How do I connect both hot wires (ceiling & fan) to the switch leg? Do I just splice?

You need to create a pigtail. Only one wire can go under each screw on the outlet.

Sweet I understand now both wires and the one wire connecting to the outlet are all combined in a wire nut and only one sticks out which gets connected to the switch leg thank you. This forum is kickass.
