Im looking at Ceiling fan options for the shop (40x66x14). Something along the line of this Hamton Bay , model #26829. Specs show 3700 CuFt on low and 9999 on the highest setting. When in the shop i think I would prefer some movement over a wind tunnel, so I don't think they would be run on high much, opinions here also welcome. My options for fans are 10 ft in from either long wall due to a IR tube heater down the center. Would you install 2 fans or 4 in a shop this size? Thank you

I suggest 4.

I have 4 of these, 3 on one switch (one space), and the other on it's own switch (different space) and they work great. Price is right as well.

Have two similar fans in a separate room that after 12 years the bearings went bad in them. My 15 y/o disassembled them and replace the bearings ($5 each) and they run like new again!

I did something a bit different for heat, my shop is half yours, 26x40 with a 12' ceiling, but instead of fans, I installed 2 - 6" draft inducers in 6" galv. pipe, they start 6" from the ceiling and dump at the floor. And they crank the heat out, I'd do one in each corner in your shop.

Redistributing the heat that has risen to the ceiling area is IMHO a very practical idea.

I think you could use large 6" or 8' diameter plastic pipe and muffin fans.

My shop is 40' x 50' with a 12 foot ceiling. I have 6 of the fans similar to drmrkr. I get a pretty comfortable breeze in the summer. I don't use them in the winter to distribute the heat, but I think I would want to slow them down a bit for that.

My shop is 40x60x14, Basically 3- 20ft bays, I installed one fan in each bay, mine look like the ones pictured in post #4, each of mine have a speed control, very inexpensive on amazon. I like them in the winter to move the heat around.

I have a 40 x60 shop with a 16' ceiling. I have one - yep one - Big *** 14'ø Essence fan and I don't need any more air movement anywhere in the building - it rarely is going more than 1/2 speed. 220VAC 1ø

I find the fan works better the farther it is from the ceiling. Within reason you know, down to the midpoint of the wall-height.

I'm forced to place my ceiling fans right next to the ceiling for clearance and they work but not like the one in my house with a ~3ft down-rod.

But to answer your question I'd go with 4.

I have a 38 x60 foot bldg with 3 variable speed 60 inch fans from Menards. They seem to work fine for me. They are equally spaced.

I'd go for 4 fans. I'd get the largest possible within reasonable cost so you can run them on slow. A 72 inch fan on slow beats the wind tunnel effect from a 50 inch fan on meduim or high every time. In the house we have remotes for all the fans. In a shop though I might go w/ pull cords and have them wired w/o a wall switch.

I purchase 4 of the 60" Canarm fans, running on a single reversible controller. They work excellent, move a lot of air on high speed, and were priced right. Highly recommended.

I would do 4, and have them pushing down in the summer, and pulling up in the winter. As others have said you don't want a breeze in the winter, that is why you are pulling up.

The workshop part of my building is 40'x50'x16' and I installed four of those similar to drmrkr. I have mine mounted on rheostats to control the speed and two per. Back two and front two so I can fine tune the airflow better. I had the exact same setup in my old 34'x34'x14' shop as well.

I'd go with 4.

I have a 30'x40'x12' building with 2 on a reostat.

I generally run them a a low speed in the Winter to move around the heat.

2 fans doesn't do much in the Summer though. Putting them on high, just makes for a lot of dust.
