Ceiling Fans: Align or stagger?

Hello all,

I've been lurking for awhile and learning from the minds on this board, for that I thank you.

I have done a search and only found one reference to my question so I thought I would post for a further discussion.

I am in the process of having a 30x42x10 post and frame/pole barn built. We live in a fairly moderate area of the Pacific Northwest (Anacortes WA). I intend to insulate and heat the space. I am still torn between a wood stove, propane vented heater and a ductless mini split. This is not my question for today, but rather some background in preparation for the question.

I intend to have several ceiling fans to help move the warm air down in the winter and to provide a breeze in the summer. I am planning on installing all of the electrical via surface mount to make it easier to add/move items in the future.

I am currently planning on installing 3 ceiling fans of the 60 or so inch Home Depot industrial style. The first two questions that I have is:

1 does that sound like an adequate number for the size of my building?

2 should I line them up and evenly space them down the center of the building or stagger them like in this drawing?

Thanks in advance.

Buy them as soon as you can, it seems the price keeps slowly creeping up on those. I think they are $89 in the store right now.

I have 3 in my 60x60 and am quite pleased with them. While I have a fourth one in the box, I doubt it will ever get installed, I just don't need it.

Will this be a flat ceiling? 10 ft? I just ran mine down the middle, but I have a steel building with no ceiling, just the peaked roof inside. You might want them in the areas where you will be working. Be sure and take in to account light flicker when you mount them. I don't have any, but it just worked out that way, I certainly did not plan it.

Basically I have three fans in an area 40 ft long. The garage door tracks, opener, and door being open kills the last bay (the one out of sight at top of pic) as far as mounting a fan. For prospective, its 20ft between each the trusses in the pic. Fans are right at 15 ft off the floor.

I've got 3 in my 64x40 finished space. Conduit wise a straight line would be easier. All your trying to do is create a circular flow either up the walls and down the center or vice versa.
