Ceiling Fans

anyone running ceiling fans in their garage?

I didn't see a point to doing A/C since I like having my garage door open so I bought a 5 blade ceiling fan to put in. anyone else running a ceiling fan(s) ?

Yes, I have an outdoor type inside the garage right in the center. It is not the best for keeping cool, but really helps keep air moving and removing fumes etc. If you stand close enough there is enough breeze to cool off a little. I also have window fans for air circulation, especially when working with carb cleaner, solvents, stain, paint etc.

I bought 2 of these for my shop. Haven't opened them yet, but the reviews were all good, and they move a ton of air.

I have a garage sale 5 blade basically in the center.
Plugged it into the opener out let.

It runs 24/7/365 on MED.
Blowing down in summer and up in winter.

Not so much for keeping me cool, I use a window fan for that, but to keep the air moving to prevent stagnant air.
Stagnant air breeds rust and mold.

I agree. Unless you have a perfectly flat, uninterrupted ceiling with nothing to block or disturb the airflow (light fixtures, floor joists from above, roof purlins of a metal building, etc) then I think the best bet is to have the fans blowing down all the time. If they blow up, the air needs to be able to move smoothly across a flat ceiling and down relatively uninterrupted walls, and in a shop this generally ain't going to happen. In large buildings they blow the heat down, because that is what works best.Just my thoughts.

I used one in the old shop - it was a "discard" 4 blade surface mount from the house. Worked fine for me - I didn't use it all the time, but it helped keep the temp even from the electric heater. For the height of summer, I found it more fun to use one of the $40 HD metal floor fans - I think it was about 18" in diameter - and hang it upside down from some hooks in front of the AC unit. Moves a LOT of air. But - don't fumble it when you take it down. Dang it.
