I am looking ceiling fans for a 14 ceiling. I want to bring the heat down. Any ideas on brand or where to buy them without spending a fortune.

So in the business I run we sell HVLS (high volume low speed ) fans. Our is a specific line, made by the same people that make our loading docks. We put them in airplane hangars, warehouses, and field houses. However, the most well known brand is Big *** Fans. They can be purchased online through home depot, but will cost you anywhere from 800 to several thousand. But there are options for the homeowner. Hunter makes an industrial fan that is VERY affordable. Napa sells HVLS fans as well, but you're back up into the thousands. Hunters will be sub thousands.

$1.50/day is generally the operating cost for one of the 24' fans. Installation is generally involves perf angle and cables. CAT5 wires control the control boxes.

So there are indeed options. They really do work. And are worth it. I've seen the difference in peoples bills for sure.

Not knowing where this would go...

I'd say try something like this:

It's better to look good than to feel good. Plus, you can never have too much light.

We need more information: Is the fan that you need for the house or for the garage/workshop? Knowing what the use of the fan is for will help to determine what kind of fan that you need. How many square/cubic feet are involved. What is the space used for?

I ordered two 9600 cfm commercial fans from home depot. They are for a workshop I am building in my pole barn . The room is 20' x 40' with 14' ceilings. I will report back when I get them installed. Thanks for all the Input.

I bought the least expensive fan I could find at Home Depot that had a remote and that was reversible.

That did the job for my shop that had 14 ft ceiling.

Do you like that Menards fan? I had one in my last shop and it was noisy and did not put out much air. I do agree, the controller was ugly.

I stick with Hunter unless they don't make one for the application I'm looking for. They're quiet, almost always perfectly balanced from the factory without having to futz with taping weights to the blades, and they last forever.

They've worked well for me so far. I've had two of them up in my first half for about 2-2 1/2 years now without any problems, and they kick up a fare amount of air to circulate the heat. The other two were just bought recently and installed on the other side of the barn than I'm currently finishing the interior on.

Per this thread, picked up this fan from HD and installed it last night:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Dec...Brushed-Nickel-Ceiling-Fan-YG491-BN/205718225

It is very quiet and moves a lot of air. Nice 6 speed remote and has a brushless motor. On low it uses 3 watts, and 'extra high' it's 28 watts.

This. I put one up with 15 1/2' ceilings and it moves enough air for 2200 square feet. I haven't had it through a summer yet but for the winter it has worked quite well.

I bought that same fan in white for $49 2 years ago from Home Depot.
they may still carry that model. give them a try.
I run mine 24x7 in Raleigh NC shop to keep air moving with the humidity issues we have here.

I've got a couple of these on each half of my barn that also has 14' ceilings. They work great for the price, but I ended up buying different speed controllers that I could mount in a 4" metal box as opposed to the ugly/bulk controls that come with the fans.

Sent you a PM Burb about the fan controller but other people here might also like to know what controllers you went with. I chose the menards fans because and the end of the day all you are trying to do is move air around to get even heating in the space. These fans are cheap and I can easily replace them when one ends up giving out. Plus the 4 I bought doesn't even come close to the price of the huge fans people are installing.

Every year, I usually find a couple of 60" house fans on the side of the road as New Home Owners change them out. I have a nice Hunter with Lights in my 30 by 32 building. It definitely moves the air!

Anyone else use the Menards industrial fans with a different speed controller?

yeah

noisy fan on low do not recommend

First try used a 3 speed fan switch from menards- no good- the fan would stall out on low.

ordered one with a trimmable low speed from zoro- probably cost as much as the crappy fan.
