Ceiling for garage question

Maybe someone can help me here.
In my garage being built (3 bay, under the bedrooms), I would like to use something other than drywall on the ceiling. My contractor says it needs to have the rating to be used in a garage for fire code purposes. I would like something inexpensive, but give me an industrial look (like steel corrigated roof look)
Any suggestions?

Your contractor is right in terms of meeting fire code requirements for walls adjacent to living space. But you can cover the drywall. I used plastic corrugated roofing on the lower 6' of my garage walls, but the sections can be attached to the ceiling too. I got mine at Lowes, and they come in different colors.

It sounds like code is going to require the sheet rock, just cover it with corrugated. That way you won't have to "finish" the sheet rock and you get the industrial look.

He will still need to tape the seems to meet fire code. Doesn't have to be pretty or even but does need to be taped and mudded to seal all the gaps.

Garage door openers are noisy! I suggest you install Lift Master wall mounted which use Tortion Bars. Quietest I know of. Al W.

Correct. So he'll have to pay to sheetrock, tape and mud, and then for additional materials. The alternative would be a drop ceiling. You can get fire rated ceiling tiles for a drop ceiling.

Is flooring rated ? I just did my shed cealing in what we call yellow tongue which is MDF / Partical board which has been treated and sealed.
