interested in ceiling ideas. My hobby shop is 10X20 feet, with a ceiling height of 8 feet front to 10 feet in the back. Looking at white colored MDF beadboard waybscotting style paneling for better light reflection. How about a light colored laminated flooring or other ideas? I will be installing this with my wifes help so lighter materials will be a plus! LOL!

z, have ya thought about steel sheating, like what goes on a roof? I did a ceiling in a bar like that and it turned out fantastic and very easy to install. I rented a sheetrock jack and installed it(about 3,000sf. in one day by myself.
A friend of mine had that foil looking bubble insulation on his ceiling which i thought at the time was a pretty good idea untill his boys burnt down his shop. A garden tractor backfired through the carb and it went up like a christmass tree!

that would be very cheeep to drywall. rent a lift and go to town. you dont NEED to tape it, but if you roll on some white paint it'll be plenty bright.

I hung 7/16" OSB on my ceiling and painted it with Kilz(oil-based). If I could get the job done by myself, you can do it with your wife.

That looks pretty cool. But I got to think its pricey. Can you get that at Home Depot or Menards?

Love the corregated metal idea, but as stated, has to be pricey.

Nope. Cost less than drywall and hung it right over the OSB and trimmed with cedar. Picked some decent looking screws and was done in no time. Quick, easy and looks good. I'll never have to paint it, repair it, re-tape it...none of the stuff that goes with dry wall.

Can you get it at typical home stores? Two walls of my attached garage have drywall, building code. I don't like drywall in garages, its gets dirty and just not durable. I am not overly worried about the building code, but this would meet and look cool.

I am getting ready to put a ceiling in my garage. I was thinking plywood with a light stain. I was in a construction trailer that was done that way.

I also have pole barn, just the garage is going to be more shop and extended living space.

Lowes carries it..May not have all you will need but shouldn't be an issue. Last I checked it was just under 14.00 for a 26" x12' piece.

They also sell corrugated plastic, fiberglass really.
Lighter than steel, better insulation.
Usually in a rather ugly green, I've seen white and brown.
Cheaper locally than steel.

You can paint it, if it isn't the color you want.

I'm a big fan of light colored ceilings.

if you don't mind, lemme **** in and ask a few questions. on topic at least! it would seem to me that the corrugated steel would make for horrible acoustics. i imagine the noise reflecting off of it from say a 4 inch grinder. what is u guys' experience with noise? would this meet fire code? i have drywall on the ceiling of my attached garage now, would be interesting to remove it (it's in bad shape) and replace it with corrugated steel.

corrugated plastic sounds interesting too. would that be fire rated? perhaps lay it right over existing drywall?

thanks for accommodating my ****-in.

Corrugated steel is about the most common building material over this part of the world. My whole 60x30 shed is built from it.

Just FYI there are products over here that have a sandwich of corrugated steel, foam and then another layer of either corrugated steel or flat steel. If I was building again I'd think of using it. It is structurally strong, provides insulation and is finished both sides...no painting inside or out.

I find it hard to imagine that this stuff would not be available in the US.

The corrigations of the steel make the sound waves settle down a bit, so it isn't as bad as it would seem. It is also quite light to work with. You can get an interior grade which is cheaper and lighter to work with. I did osb on mine, and did some steel on a wall. Now I wish I had done the steel all the way around. It went much much quicker for me too. I had to order mine at Menards, but it comes in whatever length you order it in. So you could perhaps do 10' lengths cut exactly, and just go to town on it. You would be shocked how quickly it goes. Stick a vapor barrier up first would be my suggestion. You can blow insulation on top if you like.

Check to see if you have a corrugated metal supplier in your area, and check for seconds (slightly lower quality). I don't have metal on my ceiling (yet), but my shop exterior is corrugated metal, sides and roof, and I got a much better price than I would have from the big box stores.
