40x60x16 pole barn with the 2" vinyl backed insulation in whole building. now I have put in a metal ceiling. thinking of adding the attic cat blown in on the ceiling. can I blow it straight on the metal or do I need a vapor barrier there too?

What I was told and my plan. attic needs to breath or be ventilated if putting in ceiling. I am having my barn built as I write. Adding gable vents and copula (screened but..) both covered up with the bubble foil insulation inside. When I get ready to do my ceiling I will cut away that insulation so it can ventilate. Will not need vapor barrier for ceiling. will do metal and blown in. The remainder that is attached to roof will help to reflect heat.

High beam, The plastic between the metal and insulation makes sense to me and will probably do that. Can't hurt! I was really answering the part about venting the attic. Other part is my building.

The metal is not a vapor barrier. You can't get it installed that well. If the attic is ventilated then poly sheet should go up before the metal.

So if the attic isn't ventilated will adding blown in on top of metal hurt anything?

Adding the ceiling would create an unventilated attic space. Temps could get mighty high up there in that oven. Your vapor barrier would be on the cold side of the insulation. Certainly unconventional.
