Hi, I'm prepping to install a new Safe Racks unit in my garage. I am pretty confident I've found most of the joists, but near a corner bump-out, where there should be a joist 24" from it's neighbor...there isn't...according to my Zircon stud finder in sensitive mode. There are apparently joists now running at a 90 degree different direction in that section, near this corner. ?? This is a the interface between a slightly longer 3rd garage space to the rest of the garage. The garage sticks 'out' more into my driveway at this corner, so I wonder if there is some goofy joist revision to account for this...

(I'm not wise in these matters, I'm a weekend warrior.....)

Is it common to have these spaced differently near bumped out corners, or even change direction altogether?

Thanks

Clint

My attic is 20" deep in blown insulation and cramped access. Plus I have a charges water sprinkler system. Not going up there !

I'll get some pics.

Yes it's a hipped roof atop the garage

Thx

I drew in crudely the location and direction change of the joists. That's what I concluded using my Zircon and also pounding small nails into the ceiling there.

Before I mount this rack I wanted as much reassurance that this is correct. Or, I was wondering if I was finding non-weightbearing wood that shouldn't be used to mount the rack...

thanks guys!
