Ceiling Material for uninsulated roof?

Just as the title states - I'm looking for suggestions on ceiling finish materials for an uninsulated stick frame shop.

My wife and I just moved from Alaska to Florida and we are currently under contract for an older home we plan to fix up. Lucky for me, the house has an attached ~500sq ft 2-car garage as well as a detached 24x40 shop.

The shop has a half-bath as well as an insulated and air-conditioned 'office' but I dont have any plans on insulating or air conditioning the remainder of the shop space. I'm mainly looking to finish out the shop space - Finish rocking the walls, new lighting, and some type of finished ceiling. I'll need to double check (inspection on friday), but I believe all exteriore walls are insulated and sheeted with something (drywall in some areas, ply in others, etc)

The roof consists of scissor trusses all the way across. The ends of the shop have TJI joists that are used for attic storage. My tentative plan is to finish the ceiling up and over into the attic storage areas and leave the ends vented into the shop space - It will provide a finished look while still allowing airflow from above the ceiling panels into the shop.

Coming from Alaska I am new to this warm weather climate thing so any suggestions would be appreciated. I have always had cold roofs before now so I'm not really sure what kind of moisture issues I may be creating.

A couple of pictures to hold you ladies and gents over until I get into our new place and start the buildout. I stole these from the MLS posting.

The humidity through the summer will be a HUGE difference for you. You WILL want some a/c out there if not for cooling to at least help with humidity.

Well, I have a few months to think over the AC situation.

The previous owner has one window unit in the shop at the moment which probably just gets by. I guess I could consider adding a second - that would be a quick fix until I learn I cant bear it anymore.

I lived in FL for 30 years. It is hot and humid for a full 6 months of the year. I would use liner metal (a light version of metal roofing) as the humidity won't bother it, and it's quick and easy to put up. Get it in white, and your ceiling is done. I'd strongly consider at least insulating the ceiling, as the radiant heat coming through the roof in FL is brutal.

You will regret not insulating the roof, if money is an issue insulate the roof and do the ceiling later.
To actually answer your question I used the corrugated tin and have been happy. It was inexpensive, easy to install, you don't have to paint it . . . ever.
When i did mine several years ago it cost me $1100 for the materials. I've got a build thread on here if you'd like to see pics.

Hmm. I guess the only reason I wasnt going to insulate the roof is I dont have any intentions of keeping the shop cool all of the time. From your input I'll have to throw some insulation in. Might as well do vapor barrier too.

I believe the walls are insulated already. I will verify that on Friday (tomorrow) during the inspection.

Any recommendations on where to get corrugated metal in white down south?

Google is your friend for that, typically the corrugated is not painted, it's the silver/grey color of the zinc. If you want white you may have to use the "4 vee" or "5 vee" roofing.
IIRC the corrugated I used was a the thinnest gauge available, I used a thicker sheet for the outdoor work area behind the shop.

That said I promise you'll be kicking yourself if you don't insulate!

Gumby-

Not sure where in FL you are at but I believe their is a manufacturer in Starke and Palatka. I am looking for some steel liner for my ceiling as well. I’m in Brevard co. Post if you end up going with steel and where you purchase it from.

As others have said, insulate your roof. You won’t regret it.

Whatever you use should be removable so you can insulate the roof later. I have been surprised how affordable insulation contractors have been on my recent projects. I have had the jobs done completely for little more than I would pay for the material.

If the walls are indeed insulated (and really even if they aren't) you will want that lid insulated. I bet a window AC would take care of all you need at that point.

I built a screen porch in MN and I insulated the ceiling before putting up T&G pine on the vaulted ceiling. Before it was insulated you could feel the heat radiate down on you when I was working in the screen porch...I can't image how it would be in the summer in FL - brutal I bet.
