I want to utilize the small space above the garage door attached to the ceiling.
Unfortunately it’s only 9” but it would be great for smaller tools I rarely use, wood 2x4’s etc.

I can’t seem to find any commercial ceiling mounts that are 8” in height…

Any suggestions?

I hung some of those metal racks in the GF’s garage. They’d weren’t terribly expensive. If they didn’t go that small, I’d probably still get them and cut down as needed.

This is GJ. Do it yourself. You might be able to put together something nice looking out of hog wire fencing and super strut from Home Depot Hanging down from the ceiling on threaded rod.

edit: or punched angle iron like Cobbler just suggested.

Screw a 2"x2"x8' to the ceiling, parallel to the garage door, about 12" out from the wall. Now you have a 1.5" vertical place to drop down from, screw a couple 8" pieces of 2x2 to the face and let them hang down. Now screw a 2x2x8' to the back side of those two 8" pieces hanging down and another 2x2x8' to the wall. Slip a 12"x8' piece of plywood on top of those bottom 2x2x8' pieces to tie it all together...

I have some of those lag screw hooks (4) that you can lay a 2x4 flat in. Mounted and hung two parallel 2x4 and stored long light item on top of them. I also took a lag screw that had 1/4-20 threads on the other side and used barrel nuts to drop threaded rod for a shelf. The shelf holds my coolers, I have way too many but use most of them through the year. Now I'm counting them I'll bet I have 12 coolers in my garage, different sizes and styles. I may have a problem. LOL
