Ceiling mounted storage - Saferacks?

Hi,

I think I am about to buy this:

It might be nice ceiling storage. Before i do it, is there anyone that has experience or comments?

It looks similar to what I've seen a lot of other members on GJ build for a lot less money. It seems to be mostly adjustable shelving components.

Just ripped it down. If you had lived in Miami you would have got 20x4 racks for 100. This is what I learned. It's really ugly when it's full, which is why I just built an enclosed loft with sliding doors and drywalled in (will post when it's done). 2. You can just buy boltless shelving components and build your own saferack for half the price. That's all the saferack system is.

Edit -- actually that costco price is pretty good. still ugly as hell though. Now this will be so much cleaner when it is done (drywalled and painted and recessed lights underneath)

I've helped my Dad install HyLofts in his garage. They were ok. I still have one extra that didn't fit that I've never put up. But when I saw the Costco unit I thought it looked pretty nice - especially for the price.

My friend just installed these in his garage since they are on sale... Pretty sure I am going to pick up two of them. I will post pictures when I get home tomorrrow to show you his install. I think it looks awesome. And completely uses that dead space above the garage.

Ok. But where's the picture with all the **** on it? I had the same thing and it looked like *** when it was full.

I built something similar out of 2x4's, metal deck brackets and a sheet of plywood. I didn't enclose it but it would be easy to do and then paint it for a nicer look.

lol. Since he just put it up i'm assuming he will start loading it up, then i'll ask him for more pictures and post it.

I think depending on what you have and how you organize it will make it look bad or not. IE: When I have wall shelves everything has a specific spot on the shelf, there is never loose stuff on the shelf. If there is it's in a container. This helps it making things not look like a cluttered mess.

I'll ask him in a week or two and see what he puts up there.

I feel they are a good product. I don't have them but have seen them. Just like the Gorilla Racks they used to sell. Good product but not much ability to alter them for custom fits, but saying that most building dimensions fall under the SafeRacks 4x8 size.
I built mine out of Unistrut to give me a more custom build for height, length and width.

Like the idea of utilizing space above garage door rails for storage . . . however, I sure wouldn't want to put any small items up there that could fall down and damage vehicle underneath later!

Neighbor does woodworking in his garage, and he just built his own using Uni-Rail with the threaded rods to ceiling and mounted plywood. He had useful storage up there and no risk of it falling down on vehicles.

UniRail would give lots of options later due to all the connection points.

I'm going to have sliding doors on mine.

I'm going to do a thread soon but check out the outwater plastics catalog. I like their sliding door tracks best because they come with small wheeled carriers for the doors to make them slide smooth. You can see my sliding plexi doors above.

Looks Good to me! I just bought those and going to install them to same way!

One thing I like about them is their weight capacity.

It is low enough, that if you overload them too much, either the rack will fail, or the fasteners will pull out, before your building structure fails.

Kind of dumb proof.

I assume the 48" width is outside of the vertical legs. Can you get a full sheet of plywood on one of these things?
