ceiling question

So i have a 30*30 pole barn with metal trusses. I think the pitch is 4:12. Is there a way to span 30 foot across to put a ceiling in the shop without putting 6*6s in the middle of he floor as supports.

You mean below the trusses? Why not just put the ceiling on the bottom of the trusses?

How far apart are the trusses?
It doesn't sound like you'll need to span 30', just the distance between trusses, either between them, or attached to the underside of them.

Assuming you have to span the full 30 feet, and not between the trusses as was suggested, talk to a lumberyard about sizing an LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) beam. It's basicly huge engineered plywood. You cut it with standard saws, drill it, nail it, bolt it. It's lighter than steel. Still not cheap. The lumberyard can send out the requirements and the factory engineering department will size the beams at no charge, and give you a full design including crossmembers carried by the beam.

my poles are ten feet apart. I dont know y but I don't think about mounting to the underside of the trusses. I'll check on the lvl because I'd like to have storage in the top

If you plan to store things on top of the ceiling then be sure that the rafters are sized for that too. You are basicly laying a 30 foot long board on edge from wall to wall. You'll need to consider the weight of the ceiling, lights, beams themselves, and the weight of the stored loot above.

Sounds like the existing metal trusses for the roof are not flat so putting your ceiling on the bottom of the metal trusses would get you a tall ceiling. That's what I would do.
