ceiling shelves

How should i build a long shelf (30ft) across the entire back wall of my 3-car garage? I want it up high 16 inches from the ceiling and 2ft deep. It will be for storing containers of junk, not real heavy. Like those rubbermaid containers.

The wall is concrete block (Florida Construction). So i am unsure if i should mount a 2x4 header to the wall with concrete anchors then support the front with 2x4s bolted to a ceiling header lagged to the joists. Or if i should lag ceiling headers front and rear and then drop down some supports.

This overhead storage is above one of my garage doors, and not bolted to the wall, but I took the lag the 2x4s to the ceiling joists approach for it. I've seen others drop down chains, all-thread, angle iron, etc. from the ceiling too. That all depends on your tolerance (or intolerance for) aesthetics. You might also consider bottom / angled braces back to the wall from underneath, depending how far out (deep) the shelves are.

This is not my photo. I saw this a year or two ago on here. I cant remember who had it. I want to replicate a similar version for my garage.

I used threaded rod to hang my shelves.

I built a bunch of these at my last house. Rock solid and roomy.

overbuild it. you dont think those containers add up, but they get heavy when you fill them.

I also used threaded rod into the ceiling joist,and expanded metal for the shelf,angle for the frame.
The smaller shallower bottom shelf is supported by small round stock welded to the upper shelf.

Uni strut and threaded rod is great for this application. Electrical wholesalers stock everything you need.
