Ceiling trim/crown molding?

Ok, so the drywall that was put up by the previous owner is terrible. Tape peeling, up against the old exterior concrete walls its ugly, corners are ugly, etc. I dont feel like putting up corner bead, retaping the corners. etc. Its just too much after redoing the walls and ceiling.

So I am looking for a CHEAP alternative to something like crown molding. So does anyone have any ideas or pictures? Pics would great. I was thinking of some kinda 1"x?" wood up on the ceiling and then on the walls butting up. Basically making a nice border on the ceiling and edges. But again, nothing complicated or expensive.

I might just leave it the way it is anyway:lol_hitti
Lemme know what you guys think,

Depending on how much of your house needs it, crown molding isn't that expensive. You can avoid the trouble of mitering the corners by using those decorative blocks that allow a square cut in the corner. Whatever you do, I recommend an air nailer. It will save you some headaches. Good luck!

Thanks Mike, I was talking about the garage, not the house. I already have that done!

Pine Crown is the cheap alternative right? It's not that expensive and will look great..

But I have seen 1x4 used in a garage for ceiling trim and it looked fine. You can also use some quarter round, it should cover the seam depending on how bad it is and it's super cheap.

Yeah I thought of 1/4 round, but in some spots it MIGHT not be wide enough. But yeah, def would be easy. Wondering how that would look though?

And the 1x4 might be what I do, I just might do all of this later. Get the walls painted for now and then worry about this later.

I was going to paint the ceiling and walls the same color so yeah, it might just hide it good enough for now!

Extruded crown molding. I used 10' pieces on another project, very easy to use and inexpensive. Cuts like wood, nail or glue in place, paintable.

When I first did the house garage, I used 1x4's, stained and coated with clear. It didn't turn out too bad and it didn't cost an arm and a leg

Wouldn't a better choice be to have cabinets up there to hid it? My plan is to have cabinets covering almost every single exposed inch of upper wall space.....never enough storage....

Hey gewb, were you find that at? Lowes, Depot?

Correct, and a lot of other building supply places. The "simple" shaped one I got at Lowes years ago - didn't see it on their Website but I found many items in the B&M stores that weren't online.

A little construction adhesive works great to hold the extruded molding up as the molding is not as heavy as wood.

ddawg, I would love to. But literally almost every linear foot of the ceiling/wall joint has peeling tape, poor joints, etc. And also like I mentioned, there is a wall where the drywall meets the old stucco'd exterior wall and that joint is horrible. So no cabinets would get mounted on that wall anyway. Plus, it would cost an arm and a leg for that many cabinets!

But I am thinking the 1x4 might just be my trick. Thanks everyone!

I was too lazy and too busy to tape the corners on my last garage.A 4x8 MDF sheet or two ripped into 4 and 5 inch strips,a bit of DAP and a coat of paint did the trick,by the time I had it filled with cabinets, shelves and all my junk,no one ever knew the difference.
