ceiling & wall paint sheen - tips?

figured regular white ceiling paint to hide some potenital flaws in my tape job (looks good, but not perfect). would another sheen be better durability?

walls--i was thinking white semi gloss, but....again, my tape job was very good, but not perfect. will i be ripping my hair out with how semi gloss shows every little thing?

then again it is, after all, *just* a garage....not my living room, so maybe showing finish imperfections is ok given durability/ease of cleaning?

and one last question: interior or exterior paint? perhaps kitchen & bathroom interior? i live in northeast, where we get the full range of temps from wicked humid to freezing. interior of garage is insulated, for whatever that's worth.

thanks for any suggestions.

In my garage, I use only full gloss paint. It stays cleaner. I use exterior paint inside my garage because of the temperature change in there.
Put on whatever suits your needs. If you are trying to impress others with a perfect wall, then consider textured walls, but if you do any work out there, be prepared to have it look dirty.

good point. i think i can deal with the occasional highlight of not so perfect section of tape & compound vs. dealing with filthy walls.

thanks, you helped me answer my own question!

Like Gary says...Get exterior house paint. It is designed to get wet. My garage was drywalled and painted with house paint 8 years ago. Never been sorry.

I did exterior semi gloss white. Easy to keep clean and doesn't show the plaster imperfections unless your looking for them. Only you will know were they are.

I painted walls and ceiling with the same paint. Ceiling has 'knock-down" texture. I think it is satin finish. Been pretty easy to clean.

here are a couple of pics with the dywall in the background. You can see the sheen of the lights on the ceiling....

Did everyone apply primer 1st or use the paint and primer in one?

i've got 2 coats of primer on now on sheetrock and am ready for the finish coat(s) of paint.

i've tried the paint & primer all-in-one on other projects, and i don't think it works despite the marketing efforts to say otherwise. maybe it does in certain situations, but i think you just can't beat a good coat or two of real primer then a coat or two of good paint applied properly.

Any type of texture would help hide your finishing flaws but would make it a bit harder to keep clean. Pick which you want more - dirty flawless or clean mistakes.

I would definitely use primer before the finish paint. We mixed drywall mud and sprayed the walls to get a light orange peal texture before painting. That helps hide slight imperfections and is still easy to clean.
