My garage has been finished for about a year now and I am thinking about adding a ceiling. I am sure there has been much discussion on this topic but have not been able to find a lot of info. I know sheetrock is used by many but I really like the look of the metal ceilings similar to what Morton would use. Not sure I like it on the walls but sure looks nice on the ceiling. I was wondering how expensive the material is and how difficult to install properly....around overhead door tracks etc. I assume I would remove tracks, outlets and re install over ceiling. Anyhow, this site seems to be a wealth of info and I thought I could get some input. Never knew there were so many people out there who loved their garage like I do mine !

White metal siding will look killer as a ceiling. It's price will vary according to your location. I've never put it up but I know it's not "that" hard, just make sure everything is square in that first sheet.

I don't think you could get a ceiling that would install easier, or look better than metal panel. In fact I just hung a ceiling in my shop extension today with my wife as a helper and my daughter handing the metal up to us on a scaffold.

We would get it in place, my daughter would prop a 2x6 under one end, then go to the other and prop another, then my wife would hold the center of the panel while I put the screws in to hold it.

Nice thing about it is that once its up, it's done. no painting, no taping, no sanding, it is bright and will last for 20-30 years on a ceiling that is not exposed to the weather.

Another advantage is that you can order the sheets pre-cut by the inch through places like Menards. I did a 12x16 foot ceiling today for about $200 after buying the screws.

Thanks Jim. I have seen some that look really nice and it just seems so much easier than taping all those joints. I have about 1100 square feet to do and that is way more taping than I would tackle. If I go with the metal, I think I can do it myself....and much less mess.
