I used to belong to a bulletin board (isca, shadow, maybe another one). one of the forums was death club or something along those lines.
At the beginning of the year, each player wouled submit a list of 5 celebrity names. If a person on your list died during the year, you were awarded points equal to their age subtracted from 100.
so if you picked a person who died at age 72, you’d get 28 points.
is it morbid? Yes….but interesting.
Some people were consistently good at listing people who would die at relatively young ages, thus earning more points.

There's not a constant run of death posts. I don't care enough about it to watch a post and certainly don't think it warrants being pinned anywhere (because that's what usually follows with posts like this). I'd rather see a new thread about so and so RIP and either click it or ignore it and move on.
If it's such a big deal that it's making a mess of a forum having a dedicated section is easier to follow then a single thread.

A couple of the forums I'm on have a specific section for deaths of people that were important to the topic of the board. One has a second section for those in a specific industry, that many of the forum members are, or were part of, but not related to the forum subject itself.

I don't know enough about computers and how much space every new thread (about any topic) take up. I thought that a post in a dedicated thread would take less space than a new thread every time a frog farts.

When someone starts a thread about an actor or musician or whatever, it's nice because it creates a little bit of conversation, or people generally chiming in with a memory.

Agreed. What do they hurt? If someone doesn't like them they don't have to read them. Pretty easy really.

There are a lot of threads that I don't read just because they don't interest me but I don't complain about them.

Yeah, I can't say I care one way or other.

Never really understood celebrity. They're just people who happen to work in some publicly known manner. When a celebrity dies, whether it's an actor, musician, or politician, I really don't much care. I mean, I feel badly for those who knew the person, but otherwise... whatever.

So yeah, I just skip those threads.

The space occupied by threads for individual deaths vs one thread for many deaths plus the one complaining about it all is pretty much the same.

The forum already exists as a thing, so it's only the letters and numbers which are negligible in size vs the graphics and infrastructure.

They were probably murderers. You used to hang out with murderers.

Here's a suggestion: Nobody mess with vavet. He used to hang out with murderers.

Pretty easy to just roll on by to whatever interests you.
You could have roll on by but you choose to respond?

I can’t say what your reason is for coming here but mine is that this is a forum. Literally a place to discuss and debate. If you don’t want people to comment and just “roll on by” then it’s just an echo chamber.

And that is the problem with RIP post. Some shouldn’t rest in peace for the things they inflicted on others in their lives but to talk about the dead pisses the fans of celebs off.

The celeb RIP post should really be regulated as taboo topics like politics, religion, or killing rodents.

They should be reserved for a forum member, individuals in the Motorsport scene or closely related to the garage scene, not someone that was on the **** tube a few shows and then did a lot of coke

This thread should be dead by the end of the weekend.
Let me know how many points I get if I am correct 🙄

I agree with Miss the Pontiacs. Just consolidate duplicate mortality notices for the same unfortunate Soul, and roll-on. If you're not interested in someone, walk on-by, and be glad the thread isn't about your obituary ('Whew, it's hot down-here!'):devilish::evil:

Hey man. It’s starting to feel like you are here to debate… over anything… and that’s not cool. You need to chill a bit.

How about a thread to list celebrities that you thought were dead but are actually still alive?

Or maybe a confirmation of "still alive?" celebrities where we can vote if we think they are alive or dead.

Is the dude from Knight Rider still alive?
