Check with your cellular provider about wifi calling.
I used to use a femtocell, but now many/most providers offer wifi calling.
I recommend doing that and just installing a wifi router nearby if you don't already have one.

I tried this and constantly dropped calls.

Kinda depends on how much money you want to spend, I've also had bad luck with wifi calling.

I've had good luck with Wilson/Weboost products, they automatically tune the signal bands which is nice when service is kind of on and off.

I have a Surecall Fusion with directional Yagi outside antenna at one of my plants, it works really great when it wants to, but I'm constantly having to tune the gain on it.

I have this Wilson below for the control room at a different plant and it does really well, but the room is only like 100 square feet.

I have a Wilson PRO something or other for yet another plant and it does well in a 3000ish square foot steel building. But I think I paid around $1200 for that one.

Also have the Weboost Drive Reach OTR in my service truck and as long as I can get at least one bar without it, it usually bumps that up to 3 bars when it's turned on.

Whatever you get, I would try to get a newer model that has 5G capability for whenever they switch over to it.

I set up WiFi calling as we are also in a dead zone over the hill from the cell tower.

I then added an Eeros mesh to get wifi into the garage. We have a metal roof and the garage is at the extreme end of the house from the router.

When I have had marginal cellular reception, I have sometimes needed to put airplane mode on and then turn wifi on. This forces the phone to only use the wifi, and that greatly improved my wifi calling in those circumstances.
(I use Google Fi as my provider).

I think that's the issue is it switches back and forth, but I don't want to have to remember to switch back and forth and miss calls/texts. The other issue is since it's a metal building it gets the signal into the building fine, but it wouldn't go out hence why I could always hear the other person but it was both of miss on whether or not they could hear me.

On Android I run Smartwifiselector and that really helps for me:
