Central Air problem in Garage

My garage has a gas furnace in it and I was thinking of just putting a mini split system in it for cooling but one of the HVAC guys I work with does residental on the side told me he would give me a central air system on his next change out if it worked ok. Well he ended up getting me one, a older Carrier unit. Got everything set up and running but it was leaking all over the place so he came back out and tried to fix some of the leaks, recharged, he left and it was leaking some more where it goes into the A-Coil and the compressor was not running. He came back fixed some more leaks and it was still leaking around some of the fittings so he said I would be better off just getting a new A-Coil because this one he could not braze it where the Aluminum meets the copper. So new A-Coil installed charged the system back up everything running fine, compressor running fine. I shut the system off that night and started it back up the next day and the compressor wasnt running again! I borrowed a multi-meter from work that could read microfarads and the capacitor checked out right on the money. I added a hard-start kit and still no go. I am getting 230V at disconnect outside and 24V at the contactor, didnt get a chance to measure with it running to see what was coming out of the contactor. Condenser fan is running fine. No breakers have tripped. Fan comes on when I push contactor in but still no compressor. Any reason why compressor would run when being charged and afterwards but not start back up once shut off?

Sounds like the compressor is shot. Is it an real old unit? Compressor have an internal overload? HVAC guy tried to fix the leaks? I think you need a new HVAC guy.

Yea its a pretty old unit. He was having a hard time getting it sealed up on all the compression fittings at the A-coil. He is not charging me anything so I cant ***** too much.
