I doubt its a piece of ****, just not a lot of support for it and who knows where and what its made from. They may change internals at any time, contractor changes, etc, they can be a hassle. Not all that familiar with it though. One thing about a Hobart, is a certain bet, they are well proven, make a lot of them and have the best factory support in the business.

I have had that same basic welder that is a lincolin for yeas with no problems
I have had a century for years with no problems
one time I called the century tech help line because my welder stopped feeding
they walked me through diagnosing the problem and then sent me the relay for free
(on my word of when I bought it)

I've gone a 220v century mig for 11 years; used the hell out of it.
Never has given me the first bit of trouble.

I wasn't saying Century's are bad....just the new ones with Lincoln's name stamped on them aren't from the USA. Disappointing. That's why I bought the Hobart instead.

I seen @ Tractor Supply for $431. Just figured I'd ask to see how good a deal this is. I have heard Northern Tool will have it with a cart free on BF for $431 also.

I saw that, but after you add the sales tax (I had to in Texas at least), it wasn't a better deal. $2 cheaper, but I'd have to go to TSC and pick it up.

What do you guys think about the welding helmet on sale for $59 during BF? Good deal or buy the $39 HF helmet?

The AD Northern Tool helmet gets good reviews....it's the one I bought.

Looks like a great helmet from the reviews. TSC is about 4 miles from the house. HF is about 25 miles and Northern is about 40 miles.

Thinking about getting one of the HF red carts and making it into a welding cart?

Sounds like a plan. I'm going to try and build my own cart. I think it will be a good first project for a newbie like me.

Yes, this 175-180 class is about the best thing they have ever invented for this type of crowd, good investment for the $, easy on the incoming power and really twice the machine as the 120V 140 class for a slight amount more money. They run 030 solid wire very well. Gives them some more poop for slightly thicker material.

I have a Handler 140 and like it, but my brother inlaw has the miller version, it has infanite settings for heat where as my Hobart only has 4 settings. The Miller can be fine tuned for nicer welds. Unfortunatly there alot more $$$, just thought I'd add my 2cents. Best of Luck!

Newbie as well. I think I will try out building a welding table. I really like the idea of have drawers for holding supplies, and don't have the skill to build it.

I ended up ordering the Century 180 MIG from www.weldingsupplyusa.com for $447.00 shipped to my door. This is the same package that comes with the MIG regulator and cart. This welder is currently sold at NorthernTool / Amazon for $699.00.

I know it is not the Hobart 187 that I really wanted, but I just do not have the coin at the moment and I really wanted a 220V welder. This will be mainly used for small jobs around the house, including some work on my Mustang. At $447.00 I can easily recoup most of the money on CL and step up to a better welder when cash permits.

I plan on having my buddy come over to teach some better MIG techniques, plus he will help setup the machine when it arrives. Hopefully a basic review of this machine will be coming soon once it arrives..

Also.. before the "GOOD LUCK GETTING PARTS" post turns up: I went to my local welding supply house and took the replacement parts list that I printed from the Lincoln website for this welder. They said no problem getting parts from Lincoln and the consumables are readily available Lincoln part numbers, which they have on the shelf.
