Which tile holds up to welding splatter better? I want to put a backsplash up to minimize the risk of setting the wall on fire!:FIREdevil

Either will handle splatter just fine, if you're not concerned with cosmetics. If you don't want black burn marks, I'd get some dark gray or black tile.

Porcelain is harder/stronger than ceramic, as a rule.

Cool. Thanks. Stopped by my local HD on the way home. Not too many color choices. I think I will look for a local tile shop next week.

Lowes has porcelain on sale sometimes for $1/sf.

I cheaped out and unrolled some aluminum roofing flashing on my wall around my welding table, then painted it to match the wall.

I thought about that too. My wife wants a new backsplash in the kitchen and I figured this would be good practice. Might as well learn where mistakes won't matter.
