Hey,

Its probably about time I post something and really get started on this project.
We purchased our first home (a century home :Help: ) nearly 5 years ago and started renovating the day we moved in. Finally this summer we have had some time to start focusing on the exterior, yard, and Shed/Garage. As far as we can tell it was built in the late 90's or early 2000's on a hand poured 3" slab???
Exterior size is 12" x 16" with standard pre-engineered roof trusses and 2x4 construction. The door is a metal tilt style door that is pretty flimsy and bows out in the center. There are some basic shelves and a man door that can't be open when closing or opening the garage door due to interference. The windows are exterior mounted aluminum storm windows but they do the trick for now.
I'm going to try embedding the photos into the thread.
The is it shortly after moving in and the project car that doesn't quite fit that I have been picking away at for two and a half years inside the shed lol. :wtf:
It finally ran a drove for the first time in 10 years back in July

Back in the spring with the help of a buddy at work, i was able to snag a used quick lift for a good deal locally. This made it a lot easier working under the wagon. Unfortunately it means things tend to get shoved under the car when in a rush.
The "tree" behind the garage was causing issues with the shingles as well as had started pushing in on the sheathing on the back side of the garage. Time to say goodbye. Turned out to be some kind of gigantic weed that was about 30 feet tall lol. The root ball on this thing was brutal with stones all through it. I could only get down to about 8 inches above ground level before completely ruining the blade on my chain saw so it was time for the bigger guns.

Finally this past weekend I was able to get some paint on the garage door and started on the trim. The trim soaked up almost half a gallon on its own on just this front side. Also discovered some rot on the bottom right corner as the lawn had grown up against it.
Also got a start on an 8"x12" temporary "addition" on the back side until I can get this moved to the end of the drive way on a proper insulated slab and extended out to 12"x24" with bay windows built out on both sides for work benches that don't officially increase the square footage of the building beyond the 12x24 plan.

I ended up needing to re shingle half of the roof the other night. The tree and sun had done some real damage on the south facing side and during the last windy storm nearly half of the tabs on the shingles ripped off. I decided to go with architectural shingles this time instead of the 3 tab that was there. After closer inspection of the other side of the roof it looks like I will need to do that as well. A couple mossy spots have nearly eaten clear through the shingles.
Hopefully I can still get to the temporary addition before the snow arrives!
I was also able to take some time to try and troubleshoot the charging issue with the Audi. The alternator checks out fine and found a badly corroded ground cable between the motor and frame. Cleaned all that up and just need to get the alternator back in to test it all out.

I haven't posted here in a while but made a little progress. Finally got the second half of the roof done. A bit of paint on the front of it too. Just need to get the other 3 sides now. Still needs lots of work. Got the back yard leveled and some grass growing now. Temporary shelter off the back is shot so almost time to extend this small space out to 24 ft. House roof needs to be replaced first though. Its only 32x30 but has a 12:12 pitch and is hipped and 22' to the eves. Can't really say I'm looking forward to it haha.
Also planning to move the stairs on the porch close to the front in preparation for moving the "Garage" to the side of the house at the end of the drive way. Fingers crossed I can get this done this fall. Got a good deal on some premix to make a pad for the new stairs location. Tried my hand at laying patio stones. Needs to be redone to square everything up but it was an interesting test. Unfortunately some of the patio stones were a different color as they were on clearance. Thinking of doing some kind of pattern with them maybe?

Finally got a new door in the garage!
Hopefully I can make some serious progress on "stage 1" this year. The town has indicated that they will allow me to move the garage without needing a full blown building permit, just a development permit, requiring no building inspections. The only catch is that it must remain under 214.7 sq.ft. With the current price of lumber, I'm thinking this is the way to go for now. I can then add on to the structure later. 671164001eafb7c5386fa6308bbd445a.jpg0baf3488aba19b4fba931577c9fdcfe5.jpg48dc5238787e55bae2c479856aa454bd.jpg

Thanks! It has definitely been nice having a little space for some projects. Hopefully I can get it move into a more convenient location. The nice thing about it being smallish is that is should be easier to move... Hopefully haha

Not really a garage update but did some work out of it. Pulled a popped motor from a parts Passat I have had for a while. It will be an engine parts donner for someone doing a diesel swap into an audi a90. Got to use the engine hoist for the first time in over a year. Felt good.
Found some inspiration for the final exterior look of the garage.
Also, had a chance to do some tile work in the kitchen. The honey do list is one item shorter now. Probably should have grabbed a shot of the finished product though.22c47d5980778b7cbdd77b0f5d052bd4.jpgd5a112b41a25e4b7ec559ea0937934a5.jpgeadbdb352749035dd330d967942ef6cb.jpg

It has been a long time since posting anything here.
Work on the garage/shed consisted of only installing temporary walls and a roof to provide shelter for projects as I am finally moving forward on an actual garage build!
I broke ground on the new garage in October of 2022 and was able to get the slab poured as the snow began. I am building it myself so things are taking a while but I will be starting a new thread to document everything to date.
20221030_180830.jpg

Started by making a mess of the side yard and renting some equipment.

And then getting a solid base installed

The overall size was limited to 18x28 due to property line setbacks but it should be a nice upgrade from the shed I have been working in for years now.
Where we are at today. Trying to get the roof on in the next few weeks.
