CFL replacement for can 5" diameter floods?

More of a house than a shop q: Our new house and daughters house has the same issue. She has 4 large can lights in her kitchen, same size in our living room. The 65W and 75W 5" floods seem to be hard to find now. I did find a GE Reveal indoor flood, but they are 120W. There are some 120W CFLs that are 5" and will fit the cans - what are others using as replacements? The 65W floods are now all too small for the cans and look like ####. Our can says 90W BR40 is the largest bulb allowed. I imagine that since the "120W" CFLs are only about 25W they will work fine.

Don't know the number, but I got the big cfl's for my 5" cans at Menards. They work great. Take a few moments to come up to brightness.

Thanks - that's appreciated. I don't mind CFLs, the house is full of them. Some light faster than others - not a big deal. Incandescents are on the way out.

I'll have to stick with Walmart, McCoys, Lowes or HD - Closest Menards is 1040 miles from me.

I wonder if I should go "75w" CLF when the cans are 9' off the floor. I might like the 120W better. I googled the BR40 and found several - thanks. Now she want's dimmable - I need to check our Lowes on the north side - it has the largest bulb department around.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Maybe we SHOULD hoard a few incandescents LOL.

All CFL floods take a minute to come up to speed. The enclosed bulb gets hotter, so they have to use a different amalgam in the tube.

Buy a good quality brand (Lowes carries Sylvania which has good light quality). Mixing brands results in different colors, which I find annoying...

Dimmables are pricey, but the quality is getting better. Buy them someplace you can return them if they don't work out...

But don't run non-dimmables on a dimmed circuit!

I'd consider LEDs - they are nice. But priced like the LED bulbs for the christmas tree at the drag strip at $60 each.

The dimmables are not perfect for us either. It is difficult to find a dimmer that is made for cfl's, which helps a lot.
