CH breaker sourcing

Can anyone point me to a good source for CH Pon 30, 40 and 50 amp 2 pole gfci breakers? Could even have the pigtail as that would also work.

I’m adding two 30 amp receptacles in the garage plus the kitchen cooktop which is right under a pot filler. Then the 50 amp is for a future car charging or welder outlet in the garage.

My understanding is that if the circuits contain outlets/receptacles that gfci protection is necessary.

Searching for a reasonable source on the web has been less than stellar. Supply house sites seem to price these around 400+ and that seems insane. Amazon I’m afraid, is likely full of fakes and I don’t want to risk that.

If anyone has a good idea on source I’d sure love to hear it. Thanks in advance!

I've purchased CH breakers through Amazon and never gotten one that I suspected as being a knockoff. I'd be suspicious if the price was really cheap but the savings through Amazon is hardly anything. Sometimes I can get them cheaper through Home Depot.

What the heck type of breaker is a CH Pon?

I'm guessing plug on neutral.

It would help to know your location. I've bought them at Menards, there is one local supply house that carries Eaton, but it's out of the way for me. I've also purchased from Ebay when I've had time to wait.

As far as GFCI requirements for 240 volt loads, it's 2020 code. IF wherever you are is on the 2020 NEC, they might be required. Iowa is on the 2020, but did not adopt that part of the code. I haven't heard of any other states to do this, but there may be a few.

Pretty sure I have seen them in both Menards and Home Depot in the past.

Thanks for the replies. MN state is also on the 2020 code. It would be awesome if we didn't adapt that portion of code but as far as I can tell we did. I'll admit I'm no professional, just trying to get my house wired and pass the inspections.

(yes pon = plug on neutral, I should have been more specific, sorry)

I've tried Menards, HD, Lowes etc, none have them on the shelf or for ordering.

I can find just about all the other brands but not the eaton CH series in the larger amp 2 pole breakers so I think I'm stuck to online purchase only. "If only" I can find a reasonable source. Hence the post.

I've been burned on a prior project from amazon supplies. I have read a few accounts of cheap Chinese knockoffs so I'm not sure I want to risk that either. Wish they were guaranteed legit as they would be a lot cheaper (based on what I see the 15 and 20 amp versions going for)

We've got a few supply houses around here (southern MN) so I will call them today as well but not holding out hope for a reasonably priced solution there.

Buying them on Amazon with Amazon as the seller and shipper should be safe. The fake garbage usually comes from third parties

I think you can install a non PoN breaker in a PoN panel. They appear to have a neutral bus as well

Right, I can use the "pigtail" version too, and will likely have to as I don't even find a PON style in the 2 pole style. I'll have to give amazon another peruse. Thanks again for the help guys.

I'm also in MN and installing new CH PON panels. I haven't found any GFCI only breaker in 6 months of looking. Box stores have all the standard breakers (no AFCI or GFCI) and they have single pole 15 and 20A AFCI+GFCI breakers. That's it. There isn't really even anything online (e.g. Amazon and ebay). I haven't found much for pigtail versions either. Haven't tried electrical supply houses yet.

I'm not seeing anything in the Eaton catalog for 2 pole PON breakers. Only single pole 15A and 20A with the PON connection.
P/N for 30A GFCI breaker with pigtail is CHN230GF and there's a note that implies older breakers won't fit in PON load center.

2 “CHN” two-pole breakers are redesigned to fit into the plug-on neutral loadcenter without interfering with the neutral bar.

Menards has a CH 2 pole 50 GFCI listed on the website for $158 sku 3672105, but no stock here. You could also get a 50 amp hot tub panel for $100 and take the breaker out sku 3676458 That's not much help on the 30 and 40 but it's a start if anything is available.

Solved - I was able to source them at a supply house and the price was reasonable as well. Cresent electrical supply Rochester MN, you guys rock!

Ended up with the pigtail version as I could not find PON. That will work fine as well.
