Has Chad been busy?

That is the truth although not busy on the garage like I hoped! Work and three boys are keeping us busy for sure. Tomorrow is the same with pinewood derby, soccer game, riding dirtbikes, fun stuff for sure. I'm making extremely slow progress on the garage but I'm kind of enjoying just tinkering with it when I can.

Believe it or not I DID actually make some progress a couple weekends back. Got the first coat of my upper color on and really happy with it. Took forever to prep all the holes in the walls, sand and get one coat on. The walls were SO nasty dirty. Felt so good to cover it up with a nice new coat of paint. Can't believe the way people abuse their garage that are not "garage nutheads" like us! Anyway here are some progress pics. I also got the "red beast" out and played around some. Had some cool air and man did she run crisp! NOTHING like old school muscle.

What color of red do you have on the Camaro? On my monitor it looks like a deeper red than most. Would it per chance be Viper Red? Whatever it is, I like it :thumbup:

Thanks so much. Pretty sure it is viper red. The camaro was painted when I bought it so I don't know the paint code but I actually owned a 2006 red viper (see early pictures in the post) and the color was a definite match. Just the right blend of rich red color but still has some brightness. Man I miss the viper but the camaro is fun too!

Well good day for sure. Last weekend I got the second coat of upper light silver color done and today I got a good first coat of the lower darker gray color done. Took a while to tape, prep holes, sand and mostly painting all the lower block work. Tomorrow it just needs a second coat on the drywall portions.

Pics are not the greatest but looks great in person. One pic looks a little dark but it is the exact same color as my last garage.

Ready to get my stripe done soon and start getting some cabinets up to declutter my pile of mess.

Also got the camaro out for a quick spin and had some fun. Quick little iphone video. I got all sideways trying to film with one hand!

Really enjoying this garage getting done. I'll actually be sad when it is finished really.

Felt so good to paint over this nastyness.

Engine pics needed. What's spinning those rear fatties? And your last garage was bomb-diggety, can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Thanks for the kind words! It is such a great car to own. Not planning on ever letting go of this one.

Had another great day of progress today. Got the final coat of lower paint on and plenty of final touching up. I also touched up the white trim and painted the door trim, steps, etc.

I also picked up some new outlets/switches and diamond plate covers that turned out pretty good. I'm excited that I'll be painting the stripe later this week.

Got the ride stripe painted today. I have 3 coats on it and still might need another. I also bought and assembled two of the upper husky cabinets. They went pretty quick and I think I'll be happy with them. I took the badges off already. I like a clean look. Some pics from today.

Great progress  Going to get another Viper now that you have more space?

bingo that is the long term plan! Just bought the house though so it will be some years down the road but it will happen. If I sold the camaro I could do it but really want to keep it too.

Thanks! Yes got quite a bit more work done. Finally done painting. That red was a bear to cover. Took 4 coats minimum even with a dark gray base color.

Great looking garage. Where did you get the large Corvette sign that you had hung on the wall?
Thanks
pigag2

Hi I actually just hung that back up in the new garage. My wife bought that as a gift off ebay about 6 or 7 years ago but not sure of the seller though.

More progress. Finally got the red stripe finished. Took 4 coats. I was really happy with it when unmasked. I still need to do my pinstripe. Also put some pictures/banners up while I was at it. Feels like I really made a good dent in the makeover.

Next up is to buy and assemble more cabinets and hang them. Tackling the flooring is the last big challenge but looking forward to it.

Shame you had to leave your last one, but way to look on the bright side "you got a new one to play with" :) looking great too! I'm more of a bike guy, however I do appreciate muscle and your SS it sweet! I do like old school and would love to have a C10 sometime :)

Hi welcome to the site! I had Racedeck in the previous garage. Planning to do VCT in this one though. Mainly due to cost since this is a 3 car and also I want a high gloss finish.

Looks great, very unique height for the stripe but i like it.

Thanks - I realize it is not a normal wainscot height but I like it up the wall to draw the eye up a little higher and also wanted more of the dark gray showing. Did this on the first one because the window sill height was high but decided to do the same here too.

Thanks! Yes I'm actually getting to tweak my previous design but staying with many of the same colors/theme. I like old chevy trucks too. A C10 would be great to play around with!

I was wondering if you had pulled the Racedeck up from your last garage, especially after your mention of the new owner not being a car guy.

No I chose to leave it behind because I wanted to do something different in the new garage. I wasn't happy with the way it held up personally. Was hard to keep clean and had lots of impressions from jacks, scrapes, etc. I want a more permanent looking floor that doesn't have the hollow clacking sound. For the price I could do epoxy or vct a couple times.

Chad,

Your wife called me and said she want's that red thing out of the garage and wondered if I wanted it.

I told no thanks, red isn't my color, but if it was orange, then I'd take it.

I think she was made.....:headscrat

How ya doing buddy?

Things look good.

Ha ha hey Bruce! Good to see you on here. How is the big orange beast running? Had mine out last Sat night and she is running strong.

As you can see I'm fixing up the new garage after my move. Coming along pretty good. Still have flooring and cabinets to do. Take care and catch up soon.

Well been a while since I posted but making some pretty good progress over the last month or so. Finally have all my cabinets purchased and all but one hung. Put up some new 2.5" blinds, added outlets for my 50" plasma, finished the pinstripe, final painting etc.

Also got a ton of things thrown out/put away so it is really coming together.

I plan to add some more lighting soon. I have a ton of little touches planned but the next big step is to do the floor. I'm really starting to lean toward doing racedeck again but do the freeflow this time. I'm really digging the pattern used in Dubbers Single and others. Has a nice modern look compared to the black/white checkered I had before. Some pics...

Used some cardboard to mockup the tv location:

Some pics showing the latest progress on the cabinets. One more to put together and install! I just kept buying those things one or two at a time and putting together. Planning to do some sort of one piece diamond plate or SS top.

What are your thoughts on a "backsplash" under the upper cabs? Thinking of doing polished diamond plate pegboard or just a diamond plate sheet for looks. also thought of using some display shelves to for my dicast cars or something. Post any ideas please!

The new place is looking great! Lot's of thought obviously given to your choices.

What did you do for the pinstripe on the red band? Is it auto pinstripe tape? What's the width and where did you source it?

Looking forward to your floor design. The high gloss of VCT really appeals to me, but the free-flow tiles might be more practical although much more expensive.

Yes I used auto pinstripe on the walls. Did it at the last house and it help up well and really gave a finished look on the color transitions. I used 1/4" wide black and got it at Autozone. Think it took about 5-6 packages!

Great garage, lots of work went into it I am sure. And the wife is certainly a keeper. Now go thrash that big block some more.

Coming along nicely. I like the higher stripe, it's better proportioned for a high ceiling room.

I have no doubt a garage your size, with your colour scheme, would look amazing in a FreeFlow pattern. The FF won't hold up very well if you plan on using jacks/jackstands often, though. I know you made mention about the poor performance of your previous RD floor in the old place. The FF is not hardy in heavy duty applications. I remove sections of my FF when jacking my rides. PITA, but it is the only way to prevent damage to the floor. Food for thought.
