They can be slow shippers, and I wish the website was easier to navigate and told you if items were in stock or not, but otherwise I like doing business with Chad's. It also pays to use coupon codes and to check facebook for special offers, like free knipex wrenches or Wera bottle openers. :)

Chads blows. They jerked me around for two months before sending me my order.

I understand shipping delays can happen, and sometimes a retailer is at the mercy of the manufacturer. Chad's however kept blowing off my emails, and not responding to messages. I would only email them after a promised ship date was unfulfilled, and was always courteous and understanding. This went on for weeks and weeks. I was finally fed up with the excuses and sent them an email stating that I was sick and tired of waiting. I could have gone elsewhere and had Chads merchandise price matched and shipped to me already. To be honest, I really understand delays and such, but not once in any form of communication did they apologize for the delays. I wasnt looking for a freebee or a discount, all I wanted was for them to say "Hey man, sorry we cant get your order out on time as promised." That would have been fine with me. Instead they dodged my emails and wouldnt respond for weeks. So, F Chads. Never again.:monkey_po:monkey_po:monkey_po:monkey_po

I think Chad's is a love hate relationship. There have been several posts here and in the vendor comment section about their poor communication and long wait times for orders. I've never had a problem ordering from Chad's. I also think they have one of the best selection of wera and knipex item. Perhaps I have just been lucky with the items I've ordered but, I think Chad's does a great job operating out of Alaska.

I would never buy from this outfit. Direct from their T's and C's:

There is a minimum fee of $119 when a wrongful chargeback is filed, then an additional $79 an hour is applied to the bill for the amount of time dedicated to defending our case. This is our expense related to handling chargebacks.

Their definition of "wrongful" chargeback and the buyers can be 2 different things. Chargebacks protect the consumer. I've never seen terms like this before from reputable retailers. They must get an awfull lot of chargebacks to where the need to add this to their T's and C's.

If they ran an honest/professional business they wouldn't have enough chargebacks where this would matter.

I'm not sure charging for chargebacks is even legal.

That clause kind of bugs me as well, but it does make sense. I remember seeing this condition posted on their website a while ago, but that's not what discouraged me from trying them out.

I'm thinking that one or two frustrated buyers filed for chargebacks after finding out their orders were delayed.

Before placing my order, I considered a few possibilities.

1. If I need something in a timely manner, I would order from elsewhere (Amazon or MSC) or request verification via email that an item was in stock.

2. If something was wrong and I thought that a chargeback or dispute would be found in my favor, Chad's customer service would probably recognize this and provide a solution I was satisfied with. If not, after contacting them I would then be justified to escalate my complaint, possibly with a chargeback.

3. If something was wrong and I thought a chargeback or dispute would be denied by the CC company, I would hope that Chad's would still provide a solution in my favor or at least compromise. If not, I would then add Chad's to my "do not do business with" list.

As it is, I don't recall ever seeing anyone complain on a forum or elsewhere about Chad's screwing them over because of their chargeback fee policy. Most of the complaints were over backordered items and poor communication. I had no problems getting through to people at Chad's via email or chat. Last January I sent them an email and received a response in 7 minutes.

I'll bet if they communicated better, they would avoid many of the chargebacks they (possibly) experience. I do not have any experience with them. Its fairly well proven however, based on various posts in the past from GJ members, that communication is not their strong suite.

Whats a chargeback?
When you contact your credit card company and dispute a payment. The credit card company then files an investigation and will either reverse the charge completely (full refund) or reject the request.

Merchants are usually fined for chargebacks.

Credit card companies require consumers to contact merchants and try to work things out before filing a dispute or chargeback, but it looks like some don't bother to do this.

From my limited experience they are fine with communication. I ordered the Wera Koloss "hatchet" and extension handle as a "presale" item estimated to ship the end of April. It was stated that this was a presale and would not ship until the end of April. I saw that they were holding my order to complete it so I shot an email to them to see what was up. About 30 mins later I receved an email that the ratchet was in and they were waiting for the extension handle to come in and complete my order and it should be about a week. I will probably email again tomorrow to check and also make sure they add a pair of knipex pliers I wanted also.

I also noted that they raised the prices on both the ratchet and handle where I did indeed save $26 odering it as a presale item. I will let everyone know when I do receive the Koloss and post some pics and a review.

Another thing that pisses me off about them is the way they charge for shipping. I had an order with 5 different items. 4 of the items were from different manufacturers. Since they aren't in stock (of course no way of knowing when purchasing) you can opt to have them shipped as they come in to Chad's warehouse/ mom's basement. So in my situation, I would have been charged 4 different times for shipping if I had selected this option. I disagree with this. I don't think that the customer should be charged for Chad's inability to maintain sufficient inventory and stock. Just because Chads cant afford to keep merchandise on the shelves doesn't mean that the customer should have to pay for their shortcomings.

I really try to support the smaller stores and local brick and mortar shops, but these guys give me more of a reason to shop at a larger retailer. By the way, they dont have the best prices on Wera. Chads reluctantly (after 3 emails and about 2 weeks) price matched Northern Tool on the Wera chiseldrivers. And yes I did use Chad's promo code for the Wera.:monkey_pi

Good info, I was about to place an order with them for some Wiha, and Wera stuff. I can't gamble on things arriving or not or coming down the pipe *** months.

I have placed over 1300 dollars worth of orders (small amount next to most of you guys) and most if not all with the 15% off (the money I spent was after the discount) and I have gotten everything I ordered. They have been great. I would not hesitate to get more stuff from them. I have had to wait for some odd stuff, but I did get it all. Also I did only order wera stuff from them as well. I have no problem being honest and open about my dealings with them. One set was shipping from wera and that was the 1/2 zyklops metric set, but they were honest about it. They also made things right when one of the bit holders was defective and price matching sure saved me a lot of money and they did give me the price difference plus a small amount on top.

Thats the thing that gets me. They price matched for you and gave you a small amount on top of that. Why wouldn't they do that for me? Why do they make things right for some customers, and not others? I never sent them ****** emails or was rude to them in any way. I did however inquire as to why my order was never shipped as promised many times. Never got a straight answer from them. Their reply's to me gave me the distinct feeling that I was inconveniencing them and my order ($150) wasn't large enough to warrant their attention or time to respond to me in a timely manner. If they would have apologized for the delays and were the least bit understanding regarding my frustration, I probably wouldn't have posted anything here. But they blew me off and were short with me. So screw em. Even if I have to pay a little more somewhere else, it will be worth it. At least I will know if merchandise is in stock and if not, when I can expect it.

The way they matched the prices was when I sent them a website for proof with the direct link to the same product. As for the discount it only applies to wera stuff, testthebest is the code. 15% off wera. I started out spending small amounts of money... I don't think they car about what you spend. I understand what you are going through... I did have an issue with paypal, don't use it with them because they charge 3% or so to use it.

I followed Chads instructions on their website to a tee to get the price match. I contacted them and sent them a direct link to the ad. Northern Tool had the Wera chiseldrivers for $10 less then what I purchased them at Chads for. After I sent them that, they didn't respond to me until I sent them a follow up email about ten days later.

It really bothers me that Chads passes their fee's on to the customer. Like paypal fee's and shipping charges for multiple items. It seems like they have never been in a customer service oriented environment before they opened up shop. Sure they can lure customers in with low prices, but can they keep them and retain their business? Not this customer. Me and my money will go somewhere else.

I also tried to keep my orders over 200 so that I could mark the free shipping option and they would cover it, but I do understand your issues. It is sad when most people have a good experience with a company and one bad one ruins it for the person for life.

I was taught something when I was in retail management years ago. If a customer has excellent service, they'll tell one person. If a customer has terrible service, they'll tell ten people.

I always tried to keep that in the back of my head, and realized that making sure your customers are happy with their transactions is key to maintaining repeat business. Even if it means making a little less on one transaction, you will more then make up for it in future repeat business. You just cant be short sighted if you have long term goals.

A lot of merchants pass fees to their customers. Most of the time prices are raised for everyone to cover credit card and/or paypal fees. Merchants that primarily deal with paypal may have negotiated for lower rates.

Many retailers will also pass down shipping fees as well, especially for when shipping is included in the price or for when they use cheap or slow shipping. There are usually two options - wait for everything to ship together, or pay extra for items to be shipped as they're available, a fair compromise.

Paypal is an optional payment choice that they seem to not like. I would guess its a pain to deal with multiple payment sources, and they just keep paypal available for those who really want to use it...

I've been shopping there for years, no problems, had to wait for some items, but I guess thats expected with buying items made across the ocean. In the event orders ship from multiple warehouses there are not extra shipping charges for that in my experience there. My emails are always answered in a few minutes, pretty tempted to call BS on pukeballs :) As I've posted many times before, they have always taken good care of me. They seem to care more for returning customers than aquiring new ones, most business promo's I see are for new customers only and I always get ticked, "I've been loyal to 'xcompany' for 15 years, where's my rebate, where's my free month, that your offering to new customers" Chad's has promos that come down that are only announced for current shoppers and not advertised to the public, and the extra goodies are always nice too, hats, sample tools, shirts etc.

Hey, Im just one guy relating my experience with Chads. Got no reason in the world to make **** up to post on the interwebs. That aint my style.

Glad you had a better experience with them then I did. If they took care of you, then I encourage you to stick with them. In my situation, I felt like I was being treated poorly. I didn't complain to them or write them any nasty emails or phone calls. I'm just going to take my business elsewhere. That's all.

I have ordered from them several times. If the product was available, then it was sent out with no problems. They wrapped each item in butcher paper and all of the smaller stuff was put into zip top plastic bags.

Now if your stuff is on back order that is something else entirely. I needed some tools for a project so I called in my order. The customer service rep assured me that everything was "in stock" and would be shipped out. I also asked her if there were any items not available when they "pulled" the order to call me and I could find a substitute item that was on the shelf.

She notified me that the free shipping option was only available when using the website; so she had to charge me a handling fee (8.95)for taking a phone order. I figure, ok she was really helpful on the phone, I've confirmed everything is "in stock" and it costs to have an trained employee to answer the phone.

Six days go by and I have not received a shipping confirmation. So I send off a polite email asking about shipping info. Got a prompt response that they are waiting for info from the warehouse for Wiha replenishment. That's cool that they are waiting for Wiha stuff, except I did not order any Wiha items... I asked if I could adjust the order to items that were on hand instead but they assured me that they have inventory arriving the next business day.

I ended up getting my Bondhus items drop shipped from Minnesota a week later. And the balance of my order four weeks after I placed the order for product that was verbally acknowledged as "in stock".

If I want something that they sell and I am willing to wait for it, I may order from them again. If the situation is time sensitive, I would pay a premium to have it now.

Price
Quality
Service

Pick two, you can't have all three.

This guy needs some professional marketing help.

His website is a cluttered up hodge podge mess of information. He should start with a product tab and then break it out by category. I'm not going to download manufacturers .PDF catalogs and then figure out how to buy from this webiste.

And like I said earlier, get rid of all this chargeback retaliation verbage!! Sure, everyone gets some bad chargebacks but that's the cost of business. Build it into your price model but don't portray the huge negative 'tude you have. It repels more sales then you'll get in chargebacks.

I hope this guy gets his act together because I like small businesses to succeed but Chad needs some serious help. His website is very unprofessional. Maybe he should sell on Ebay instead.

With his current website, I doubt he'll remain in business until year end.

I just ordered over $700 worth of Knipex and Wera wares from them today. I asked for whatever was in stock to ship NOW and then wait for everything else. I go on vacation in a week for about 10 days so I'm not really in much of a hurry. I did email them asking to upgrade to UPS and was surprised when I got a response in a couple of minutes. I'm also hoping that making a big purchase all at once motivates them to get it right. I ordered with my Amex on purpose, i want my behind covered.

Dang! That's a lot of stuff. I hope you price matched. I can tell already from looking at your knipex stuff you could have saved a good chunk of change.

I've ordered from Chads once and I was frustrated with how my order was being processed. It's like they lack basic English reading comprehension, or choose not to read the entire email accurately. After I claimed a complaint with them, I ended up getting a store credit as my order wasn't entirely fulfilled.

I didn't even receive my Wera bottle opener, despite being told that I'd get one with the order.

Will I order from them again? Maybe. I have a store credit that's untouched for some time...

Wow, that is a big order!

Now are you just trying out those brands, or just assuming you'll like what you get?

The knipex i have already tried a bit as I already have some, the Wera is an educated leap of faith based on my readings here and playing with several screwdrivers over the last few years.

I really like the Wiha 3k handle more than anything else I have tried and after making a clay mold if you will in the past Wera handle design makes sense.

you'll be happy with the step up from WIHA 3k I don't have much good to say of WIHA anymore, but 3k is their low end diy stuff ta boot.

So what if they're low-end? I've been using 3K handled drivers for a few years now. I've tried Wera's "top-line" drivers, and there's not much of an improvement in terms of quality. Yes, the ergonomics are better, but I haven't noticed much of a difference in the screwdrivers' tips.

To each his own, thats why there are a few handfuls of German screwdriver makers all with varying grades of quality, not to mention hundreds of others available from the US and Asia. Just trying to encourage the guy about his choice :) He seems to have really jumped in with both feet and sounds to be a little worried about the whole thing.
