Don't ask.
Touch-ups in teh field I use a new style Stihl sharpener that does the teeth and rakers.
My HF sharpener works better since I did some fine tuning/alterations. Mostly to get rid of slop in the clamp that holds the chain.

ello everyone.. im looking for a chain saw sharpener, dont know what a good one or a bad one is.. Im sick of payin $6.50 to have a company sharpen a chain.. whats a good place to get one? probably a website, and brand name.. any input would be helpful, thanks
Read my answer above from 8 years ago. Then, decide if you want to spend up to $150 (Chinese Amazon) or up to $350 (Oregon-Amazon).
You'll have to do some internet searching to find experienced reviews of the sub-$150 Chinese ones.

^^^ Check out the Stihl 2 and 1 sharpener for around $35. I bought one recently and before I did I watched a couple of videos on it's use. Very EZ to use once you know how (and the learning curve is nothing). Took me 10 minutes to sharpen the chain on my Stihl. It's portable so you can sharpen on site if needed (read: stuck the bar in the dirt or hit a rock). I'd rather DIY than go to town and wait on a shop to do it where some kid who doesn't care grinds the life out of your chain. I can have a sharper chain without the wait.

My 2 cents and worth every penny!

In the market for a new chainsaw sharpener. Did the silly thing and bought one from Harbor Freight that looks to be made of plastic material that flexed a bit and didn't sharpen the chain all that well.

I'm now looking at this Northern Industrial sharpener. The reviews on the link seem good just wanted to get the opinion of the masses here. :)
I bought a chain saw sharpener from HF but mine was made in Italy. I've had it for well over 20 years and it still run quiet and smooth. It's a shame that HF went full bore Chiwandia.

I have the Oregon bench mounted one. It really only comes out for rocked out chains or occasionally for the big 36”+ chains. It does a good job.

I Try to touch them up every tank or two in the field with a stump vise and hand file.
