Okay it was suggested to me that I might want to show some of my chainsaw collection.Now I realize that you don't use them in your garage but they are tools and many users keep them in their garages.So if it doesn't belong here my appoligies.If you like this test I can put up some other photos.

This is an old Pioneer chainsaw made in Pterborough Ontario,Canada.The company has long since closed it's doors,sadly it was one of the best chainsaw companies of the day..Pioneer saws are my favourites,but I do like other makes as well.This is a model 1200 that came with optional attachments.Here it is coupled with a BrushKing brushsaw manufactured by Rowco of New Hampshire USA.

My dad sorta started a collection of chainsaws, he has two McCulloch 1-51, and a McCulloch Mac 10-10. The 1-51's are beasts and they will vibrate like none other. The 10-10 is a great smaller chainsaw.

not sure if it belongs here either but i LOVE working on small engines....there's just something very relaxing about them. Most of my friends & family bring me stuff to work on in my spare time in exchange for a few beers and some company....i talk shop and they listen. ( i can see the "hurry the f*ck up and fix my ****" look in their eyes sometimes)

This world is becoming too busy, too fast, to invasive.I think when one can find something whatever it is to get to a place that quiets his mind and brings satisafaction and completetion then that is good.Small engines are in a leauge of their own and I am myself just getting into the mechanical aspects of the chainsaws.It's quite a bit cheaper than cars.

In the chainsaw collecting world different collectors have their favorites that they like,no difference than the Chevy or Ford or Dodge guy's.I will tell you that some saws that fellas have done can have as much as 40 hours into a project saw/restoration.

back when i was younger my grandpa used to have a huge arc shaped chain saw with a large motor on the other end. i never could start that damn thing as a kid so i stopped messing with it. it at least had to weigh around 40-60lbs if not more. looked as if it was mainly used for cutting through large trucks that were already on the ground( as grandpa and most of us on this side of the family were lumberjacks. sorta like the 2 pictured here

those are about as close of a pic i can find of what it looked like

GJ members who have replied to this thread.Nice to hear you comments and thoughts on the thread.Yotarover,that's a real nice Mercury two man saw you have there.I'm sure with a little more effort you would have been able to get that bow saw you are talking about running.I'm no saw mechanic yet, but like most mechanical things that run on fuel you start with,Spark,Fuel,etc.That's what the Saw Gurus tell me that I talk to,and I have a lot of faith in them!

I like seeing those old saws. I vote for more pics. That brushcutter attachment on your Pioneer is really cool; I've never seen one before on any of the old saws at tractor/engine shows that I go to.

It's kinda funny--they used to make a brushcutter attachment to go on a chainsaw, now they make chainsaw attachments for brushcutters.

I love older chainsaws, back when they actually had some power. I bought 2 stihl 045 saws off ebay not running and have taken them apart and found new parts to get them running. Just need a gasket kit. I cleaned them up and am going to paint it and make one good saw out of it. Should be a powerful saw if I ever get the time to finish it and will only have about 175 into it. I have a smaller 18 inch poulan that's about 8 years old. It was my first chainsaw and does alright for trimming.

I started getting into small engine repair in the last couple years. Started when my grandma hit a tree stump with a brand new lawn mower and bent the crank. Had to rebuild that one.

if you bought a Poulan, there's a reason you think saws don't have power these days....

There are 2 main diffs in saws these days: vibe & emissions.

Old saws have no/ineffective anti-vibe and after an hour or two, it's just painful. I have about a dozen chainsaws and rarely run any of the old ones because it just hurts too much. And they're freakin' heavy!

Pretty much everything engine/power-related is dictated by the EPA regs. That's why mix is 50:1 and not 20:1, mufflers are constricted, etc...

Best of both worlds? Two words: muffler mod. Try it, you'll like it!

My father likes Husqvarna chainsaws the best,has a 66 comercial that is over 25 years old and only thing he has done to it is change the spark plug.Husqvarnas out cut Stihls and Stihls are more expensive to fix.Had a Stihl,nothing but carburator problems and sold it.Poulan did make Husqvarna's 36 chainsaw.

Funny thing about that particular brushcutter attachment, the company that made it was in business for many,many years in Keene New Hampshire it was called ROWCO after the family that owned it Rowe.they must have produced thousands but you don't find many of them.They made the model I have for Pioneer to be sold as an option.Rowco also had two manufacturing plants at one time on the same street in Keene.I have some history on the manufacturer after hours and hours of research.
