I see a lot of discussion about Chamberlain vs Liftmaster, etc., but don't see anything about the differneces between the two Chamberlain models in my title. It looks to me that the only difference is that the RJ070 has MyQ bulit in and has battery backup. Is that true, and if I need battery backup down the road, can I add it to an RJ020 by purchasing a battery? There doesn't seem to be a lot fo advantage to the RJ070 for an over $200 price increase.

I just put the rj 020 in my garage last week.
I think the new version has led light where as the one I bought just takes normal light bulbs. I put it on my 2” think insulated 18x10 door. Thsts as big as you can go with those. 180 sq ft.
I put tube heater down the middle of my garage, that’s why I went with the wall mount.

RJO70:
  • Wi-Fi connectivity for MyQ
  • backup battery included
  • LED Light
  • Timer-To-Close Feature - can push a button on the master control panel to close the door in 1, 5, 10 min
RJO20
  • No Wi-Fi, but you can purchase the myQ Door Control Panel to add it
  • no backup battery included, don't think it can be added
  • non-LED light

I think you're wrong about the wifi. I have 2) RJ020s that I operate from the MyQ app.
I don't remember buying anything extra.

It looks to me that the only difference is the battery backup.

I think you might be right and the newer models have the control panel needed for Wi-Fi

I was confused by this as well. When I first started looking at these openers, the RJ020 required an additional purchase of the MyQ connector. The RJ020 was $399 on Amazon (and everywhere else) and the RJ070 had it built in and was $599 everywhere. Yesterday I noticed the RJ0202 was being sold for the $399 with the MyQ connector, but I ended up purchasing the RJ070 at Home Depot, as it was $499. I thought it was worth the extra $100 for the battery backup (including the battery), and for some reason the RJ020 light is not upgradeable to an LED.

Thanks for the help everybody!

I have a rj020 and a 8500 and it does have the 1, 5 and 10 buttons.. Also you can add a battery backup to both as it has the connector on the bottom of the opener.

spring for the RJO70, much better for the extra. Get LED light and integrated MyQ instead of the bridge.
Also consider the Genie since its more compatible with older Homelinks. I had to buy another device for $25 to use my pre-2010 Homelinks.

I did an install video on the RJO20 and regretted not paying a little more for the 70.

Nice video! Very clear even having to adjust the torsion bar and accommodate all those issues. Looks like there have definitely been a few different iterations of the RJO20

Guys, on the RJ070, does the Battery fit inside the Opener Housing ?
Stretch
Yes, it does. It has a hole/slot where the battery is housed within the unit. I got the 070 a little over a year ago and am very happy with it. I find myself constantly using the wifi app and I enjoy having the peace of mind in case our power ever goes out.

Thanks again for all the excellent replies! I ended up going with an RJ070, as it was only $100 more than the RJ020 (Home Depot of all places), and included the abttery for the backup and the brighter LED smart light, which is VERY nice to have, as it works extremely well with the motion sensor on the wall switch.

What I would like to know, is about the Chamberlain RJ0101 which is a model I have heard about as opposed the RJ070 which I have never even heard about & didn't even see listed on the Chamberlain website where they have the models RJ0101 & RJ020. Please let me know about this? Thanks.
