OK guys I have been reading all the air compressor threads and have come to the conclusion it is better to buy once and get more air than you think you need. I have found a used Champion on CL. "5 HP, 80-gal vertical, 230volt, Single Phase, 23 amps, 17.3 cfm @ 175 psi, 710 rpm, Champion Model # VR5-8 Dimensions: 77"H, 33"W, 24"D
Great Shape Used Air Compressor, was being used and only recently disconnected." he will take $700 and has the starter motor with it also.
He bought it new about 1990 and used it for misc jobs and has done regular maintenance with Ans-oil synthetic. He bought a 30 CFM continuous which was required for a job he took. Never having gone with anything this big before I am concerned about future repairs and if the price is good. It seems like a good deal to me but I was hoping somebody could help make up my mind
Thanks
Wes

Where are you located at?? (not trying to snag this...) Reason I ask is that is a fair price--but I've seen them better priced (cheaper) here in the Chicago-Milwaukee region.. If you are happy paying that sum for it--and it works without error--go for it!!!

I am out in Oregon and I haven't seen many Champions. I am not sure how to value a 10 year old compressor. Are these easy to repair if I had to overhaul down the road?
Thanks
Wes

Ayuh,.... That looks like a good ole American built 2 stage compressor,...

If not for the fact You found it, 'n yer 3000 miles away,...

I'd be jumpin' All over it...

I'm pretty sure that a google search of the part number of whatever broke in the future would bring ya whatever parts ya might need...

If it can be tested, check it out to see how long it takes to pump the tank. You don't want to buy it and have to rebuild it.

There are only two AC motor that ppl use on pumps, 3500RPM or 1700RPM. The lower RPM are more expensive and generally get used on higher end pump.
