So i acquired a new to me Champion VR5-8 80 gal air compressor at an auction for a good price. When I bought my house off my buddy he left his 60 gal IR in the garage till he had a space setup for it, Fast forward to five years later he finally came and got it lol so i was in the need for one. Now im pretty handy and diy type of guy but air compressors were never anything ive really dealt with. That IR worked and i have the basic knowledge of them and thats it. The problem im running into is the space, my 80 gal with the side outlets isnt ideal(The IR had an outlet off the pressure switch at the top) Im left with about 8" off the side of the compressor and the forward most outlet angles straight towards my garage door track. Im needing to find another regulator and filter setup but my problem im running into is where can I put it. Id like to run it off the top like the IR was setup but I cant unless i change some fittings around. Question is can I just T off my pressure switch? Will that limit me on my pressures/CFM since its a much smaller diameter outlet? I know ideally it would be to create more room to the side and call it a day but between the stuff in my garage its not possible. This is only a temp setup till next spring/summer when I build my detached garage. Currently I mostly use it for basic air needs. Few times a year im using die grinders, cut off tool and drill. So not hogging a lot of air right now.

Can't you just rotate the compressor in the best position for you? I have the similar compressor in 3 phase and I have all the regulator, filters etc thirty feet away.

Run a 6 or 8ft long 1/2" or 3/4" ID rubber flex hose to a convenient spot on the wall and then attach your regulators / filters etc.

Don't Tee off the pressure switch. If you use a lot of air, the pressure drop could potentially cycle the compressor back on, and then off when you are done.
Also what is that doodad with the hose and piping? Never seen anything quite like that before. Is it a remote unloader or something?

That's a top of the line compressor that apparently you got for a great price. Don't cry with a ham in one hand and a loaf of bread in the other. Fixing this is simple. Mount all the **** (filter/regulator, air dryer on the wall and have a hose place make you a quality braded steel hose to get from where ever it needs to get from the compressor to the wall.

That’s how I set up my Champion. Tee or elbow off the side bung with a 1/4 turn shutoff, then back to an elbow at the wall, where I have a 3’ length of hydraulic hose running to a wall mounted regulator /separator.
Then to the black iron shop distribution lines.

Well I was kinda thinking that I wanted everything upfront to service the filters and be able to adjust the regulator but I think I’ll just deal with it on the right side of the compressor on the wall and just have to try and spin the regulator gauge to see it better from the front or just deal with sticking my head by the compressor to see what pressure is set at. To the left is my welding table and wanted to keep it away from the grinding dust material and from possibly being hit by bigger objects that I might be working on there. My next option would be to the left then up or down around the window to my regular workbench but that’s about 10foot away and then I run into having to run a line back to my hose reel or moving my hose reel.

You don't even have anything piled up on that nice big flat surface there, lots of room yet! Nice compressor!!
Yeah I know and well I think it was a good price at least from what I was seeing on Facebook marketplace. I paid 500.00 for it. Our local college university has an equipment auction every year and this was supposedly used in a building to operate pneumatic doors. Had all the maintance oil changes written on it as well
