Champion compressor valve Gasket?

Doing a little bit of r&r on a Champion R15 compressor. The replacement valve gaskets are a mix of copper crush gaskets and aluminum shim gaskets. When i took the valves out, there were multiple aluminum shim gaskets and no copper ones.

Does anyone know what order I should put in the new gaskets, and which way does the copper gasket get installed in reference to the groove?

I was thinking that the copper should go between the valve and the head, however the low pressure exhaust valve only uses the aluminum shims.

I got the answer from the service company that I bought the gaskets from.

Low pressure cylinder: Copper between intake valve and head. Aluminum on exhaust valve.

High pressure cylinder: Aluminum between valve and head, copper with groove up between valve and manifolds.

Hope this helps someone else that may be rebuilding a Champion air compressor.

Good info, thanks. I'm waiting to install my valves until after I successfully get the oil seal pressed in.

BTW, is that for an R15, or R15B? The valves changed for the B revision. They are all different sizes in the newer pumps, so they can't be put in the wrong place.

Bob, it's a 1973 R15. Has the opening in the bottom of the case to access the rod bolts, which leaked like a sieve. Sealed it back up. I'm not going to do the crank seal now, after seeing your problem of installing it straight. I think all of my oil leak was coming from the crank case cover and not the crank shaft seal. Going to keep an eye on it and see if it is leaking or not. I noticed that the R15b gaskets had an extra "0" in the part number vs. the R15a. Not sure what the difference would be. Can't wait to get this thing fired back up.

The R15b doesn't have the hand hole, and the difference in the valve gaskets are that the four valves are all different sizes. (I found that somewhere on the web while looking for parts)

If you need them I've got a set of R15 valve gaskets here that I'll never use . I accidentally ordered the wrong parts and it wasn't worth trying to return them.

Related to the oil seal, mine wasn't leaking either but I went on a wild goose chase inside the pump but there was nothing wrong, so I ended up having to replace the seals and gaskets anyway.

I’m new to the forum business so if I’m not doing this right I’m sorry.
I received a set of piston rings from OEM COMPRESSOR. The set to the right are the originals off my piston. The ones on the left are the new set. You can see the difference at the gaps of the rings. The original set has a step in the gap of the top ring only and the two below it are square at the gap.
The new set at the left has a step in the gap of first two and only the bottom ring is square at the gap. Did l get sent two of the same thing or has there been a change in design. My compressor is a Champion R-15A. I didn’t include a picture of the bottom oil rings, they’re the same.
