Changed thermostat, now hot air on cool setting...

And cool air on heat setting. I'm attaching pictures of the wiring from the old one and the new. Any idea on what wire is causing this issue? 1st pic is the old unit. 2nd is the new.

Did you try putting the gry/blu wires on "Aux" insted of "W2"?

This unit isn't a heat pump. Haven't tried swapping any wires yet, wanted to get some opinions first.

Might be helpful to know what you do have then. It's not just a single stage gas furnace with that many wires

I had the same issue with my new t-stat. Just a setting. No wire swapping.

So an electric resistance furnace and central air? The wiring you have seems unusual.

It looks to me like he has a heat pump. That is consistent with description of an electric heating/cooling system. Note that the old thermostat had the orange wire connected to the “w” terminal for a non-heat pump system, but connected to the “O” terminal ifgoing by the heat pump legend. On the new thermostat, he has it connected to the white, with the “O/B” not used.

It's pretty rare to see an electric furnace with A/C only. Only the outdoor unit is different and not even that much.

Seeing that orange wire makes me think heat pump since orange is normally used for the reversing valve.

Agree with the above post saying the orange wire is possibly on the wrong terminal.

Looks like heatpump wiring on the old tstat, so the new one would be wired improperly, or the usual color code was not followed.

If you are getting cool air while calling for heat, that means Y is energized, thus the tstat must be setup for a HP (or there’s a short.)

Default o/b setting in tstat for needs to be adjusted. Read the manual.
