I wish I had a before photo but basically I had a few bench power tools mounted haphazardly, crappy little floor jack and Chinese vise, a cheap Craftsman top box filled with cheap tools just sitting on the work bench and bad lighting. No compressor and really, just an unpleasant place to be. The thing is I spent a lot of time out there. I would use it to fix cars, restore old things, general repairs, some wood-making projects, etc. I loved working in the garage but really didn't know how bad I had it until I read tons of posts here and looked at a lot of photos of your guys' excellent work areas.
So slowly I've been making changes and I can't tell you how much better things are. I'm pretty much out here every free moment now and haven't watched a TV show in ages. Everything in the house is fixed, the cars all run great, I've made some pretty decent side money fixing things for others, restoring and reselling items I've found at garage sales and my mood is much improved overall. It's a place of tranquility for me. My wife absolutely supports it completely and doesn't mind when I dip into the savings for tools and equipment. She loves how enthusiastic I am about doing home repairs and auto maintenance.
I realize I'm a long, long way off from what many of you have but I can tell you this site has been incredibly inspiring for me with so many of you being highly creative and talented.
Craig's List has been invaluable and I've gotten tons of great items and cheap prices and even free from there. The classifieds/sellers here and also eBay have been great also. Oh yeah, I also buy a lot of new stuff too.
So here's some photos of where I'm at today. (As you can tell I'm not a very good photographer.) Eventually I'm going to redo and repaint the walls. It all works perfectly for me. This is my corner and it feels great to be out here building, repairing or improving things. So thanks for all your help so far.
