I recently purchase a BelAire 338VE for $50. The problem is that it has a three phase motor, and I only have single phase at my house. I was able to find a Baldor motor that is the same frame and hp rating as the original motor. I now need to know how to wire it up properly using the existing Square D 8911DPSO13V09 starter. Is this possible? how does the pressure switch wire into the starter now?
On a separate note, what would be the best way to plumb the air into the garage? The compressor will be in a small outbuilding outside the garage(non insulated) and the air line will pass through the outside wall. What would be the best way to plumb the air to result in the least amount of water and everything?

im thinking your going to have to get a starter for the new single phase motor. Most single and 3 phase electrical components wont interchange

Most 3 phase starters can be used on a single phase motor but the heater will need to be changed and the wiring might need to be changed depending on their size. This really needs to be posted in the electrical section where the electrical codes sharks feed......

The problem with the starter conversion is not that you can't run a single phase motor off a three pole starter, but rather that they are not normally sized to allow a direct conversion. Normally you will find a NEMA 0 or size 1 starter on a 5hp 3 phase motor ( 480V or 240V for the aforementioned sizes) on a single phase 5 hp motor you will need an uncommon NEMA size 1.5 or a common size 2 starter for 240V. So if your converting the standard 240v 5hp size 1 setup your limited to a 3hp single phase 240v motor.
