There is a reason to replace a handle on a cheaper tool if you can find a great deal on a nice handle you like. It may give you better grip on the tool?

I certainly wouldn't do it just for the Snap-On name. F that.

The 25" breaker bar is a great tool.
If you buy it, it is yours and should do whatever you want with it. You could try to swap the handle and fail about 10 times before breaking even with a snap on purchase.

Don't ask.
I don't like soft handles on most tools.
I have made functional handles from wood or paracord, I didn't worry too much about appearance. Now that I think about it custom handled prybars could be a good project.

Yeah I own 3 of those 25" HF breaker bars -- the one with the plain metal handle. 10 bucks each with coupon. I keep one in the shop and one in each car with a 19mm impact socket.

It's amazing that average people just get by with the piece of **** factory provided tire tool that's only like 10 inches, and they probably have to jump up and down on it to break their non-maintained (and overtightened by lazy techs) lugs.

I helped a guy out a few months ago in a parking lot. He couldn't even break his lugs with the pathetic little pressed steel tire tool his PT Cruiser came with. I put the 25 inch breaker bar on it and barely applied pressure, and I had all his lugs loose in 45 seconds. He was amazed. I told him HF has them for $12.

re: "Changing Pittsburgh into Snapon"

^ Is this a thing like the alchemists did when they changed lead into gold?

When you get it figured out, let me know. ;)

Just for understanding...I picked snapon, not because I wanted snapon, but more I didn’t want The stigma that I have with the Pittsburg name. Once again my own Stigma.

Guy in the back with your hand up...”Why did you buy it then?”.

Great question. I went with my brother. He likes going there. I saw the breaker bar and have read some reviews on them. They seem to be pretty good. Thought I would give them a chance.

If you haven't used it yet why not take it back? It will probably always have a negative stigma for you, add maybe $10 to the cost of that Pitt bar and you can buy a used USA one that will last your lifetime and you can be proud to own.

It doesn't have to be expensive, but there's no substitute for quality - or happiness!

Good question. Kinda getting to the root of my own problem. I’ll keep it and and remember some of the great words of wisdom from this thread each time I use it

Like...this one and others.

When I was a little younger I felt the same way about these cheap stigmas, but now I realize that its just a ******* fashion show for some people and there is no point to it. The key is Use the tools you want to. who gives a **** if other people scoff at your tools, as long as they work and youre happy with them what does it really matter!? I like my snap on tools but i like a lot of other cheap tools that ive bought. Also hated some snap on and cheap tools. The brand is not everything. It is much more about the work you do with the tools, and the skilled hands holding them. You will find anyone that is worth a **** will tell you the same thing.

I still don’t know why pepi had to get personal and bring up my sister

Have a distinct thought, the old saying lipstick on a pig, is still a pig

It’s funny that I stumble on this thread after looking at all the us general boxes in Craigslist right now with snap on and mac badging.

This sounds like someone wants to sell on eBay...
I hope you are not correct. We should not be coversing with someone that would do that after inquiring here on how to go about it. Insulting each other is bad enough but enabling a crook is over the line.

I see him selling tools at the local flea market every now and then. He's from Florida and I heard he sells at several different flea markets around the southeast. And yes, he was still selling "custom" ratchets. What a sleazeball!

That's crazy!:eyecrazy:

Why's everyone bashing Pittsburg? They're just as good as S.O.! :bounce:

To be honest, there aren't any markings on this ratchet, so I have no idea who sold it or even where I got it.
It didn't like the big cheater I put on it though. To it's credit, it still ratchets. Kinda.
Is that a special tool for ratcheting around corners? There is actually an assault weapon with a bent gun barrel for shooting around corners and over walls.

Harbor Freight allows return of Pittsburgh Handtools no questions asked. I snapped the head off of a 1/2 breaker bar, walked in and they told me to grab a new one. Now having said that, I did have a 4 foot cheater on it. In any event, now that I know I can walk in hassle free and get a new tool, I don't mind Pittsburgh Tools.

I didn't have a 24" breaker bar, use a couple of Proto/Plomb 18's and a 16" Indestro mostly. Need more torque, I use a 26" 3/4" drive and an adapter or a 3/4" drive socket.

But, ran into a decent deal on a SO bar today, $40 for a 24". So, will have a slightly longer bar to use instead of the 24's.

I guess I pay too much for my tools, but $40 for a SO, seems to me to be worth it over $20 minus 20% for a HF. Plus, HF is 150 mile drive, picked this up within a mile of my house.

I don't want, need, or like a plastic handle, so I'm covered there!

As a professionalistic wrenchtitian I don't feel the need to lipstick-on-a-pig any of my tools.

The very mostest bestest to the very mostest worstest if it does the job I got it for, I keep it and run it.

The only thing I've really modified is putting stickers all over my roll carts and wire wheelin' some of my black oxide stuff to make it look less ugly.

The phrase that comes to mind, is “you ain’t gotta lie to kick it”

There’s nothing wrong with usomg HF tools, they’re not the best, but they get stuff done... but trying to pretend your POS Hf **** is a Snap-On is a massive fail, and your man card WILL be revoked.

I don't know where you'd get a SO grip from in the first place? Seems pretty counterproductive if you devalued an expensive tool to improve a cheap one. What about just using a golf club grip?

Yup you either get the real deal or do the best you can with what you have/can afford. Getting cheap tools & re-badging them with SO label is a sinful act and anyone who notices your cheap tactics will think your insecure and stupid.

I'm sure they are. I would hate to think that deep down, Hitler was a nice guy who just did bad things. :)

My point is if you want Snap-On Tools you should buy snap on tools.

But
If you'd rather have something less expensive, but buy snap on tools anyway, because you think other people will look down on you, imo you're not being true to yourself and instead focusing on " keeping up with the Joneses"

I have tried to avoid that trap, but admittedly it fell into it from time to time.

Fortunately, I feel like I have outgrown it at least to some extent, can focus on real value more than status, with everything, not just tools.

Or in typical garagejournal fashion buy both :lol_hitti.
One for the shop and car/house..........:D

I have both a set of dual 80s and the Pittsburgh pros ratchets.

I remember in the workbench thread when I posted my older setup (6 or so less ratchets then present) someone had mentioned it was nice to see that someone could have Snap on and HF stuff in the same drawer...

I always thought that was a little wild, but some people on here are diehards...one way or another.

The lessons I’ve learned. I avoid buying **** in general. by being picky, doing my research and reading reviews, I save money when I can. As time has gone by and I’ve bought better tools. Its allowed me to take less used, but good quality tools home or for my car kit, I see fit that there’s little waste in tool purchases. My end goal is get the most for my money in the long haul, as long as it can accomplish the task time and again without thought...

And the Joneses :p

You paid 10% of snap on prices for hf???? What the? You should pay 10 % of craftsman for hf!! I mean , by the time you apply the 20% coupon and get the sale price, etc... should be dang near free by comparison. I mean because it is nearly free, I can only feel so bad about the purchase. Buy the pry bar set. It should only cost you 5.00 and you should get like 17 various length pry bars. Heck, when you have bent the whole lot, you should feel like you can take them to the scrap yard metal recycler and get 3.00 pound and reclaim about half of your initial 5.00 hf purchase.

Where in the blue hell magic utopia is this $3/lb #2 scrap steel buyer?
