Channel Drain for Patio

I need a drainage solution for my existing concrete patio. Calculations indicate that I need to drain 10 GPM for a 4 inch/hour rainfall. A small channel drain will do that. There is only normal foot traffic. For narrow channel drains like the ones used for pool areas, is it necessary to cut out a wide trench and set the channel in fresh concrete? Or is it sufficient to cut a narrow channel and press fit the drain into place with sealant?

Ahhh ... where is the water going to go ?

To risk overstating the obvious; the water will go into the drain :lol_hitti

I assume the drain will lead the water off the patio to a lower area...

Best to cut a wide section out and set the trench drain in fresh concrete. That way you can install the drain slightly below the surrounding concrete to encourage the water to flow into it.

It's called a Deco Drain, and it just presses in place.
A concrete wetsaw will make the cut go quickly.
I don't know where you are in FL, but you can't get more rain then we do here, I wouldn't think.

Also, a super gutter might negate the need for a deco drain, if your patio water problem is coming off your roof.

Upon further research, I have read that a channel drain tends to want to pop up over time unless it is encased in concrete.

Mine popped up the first big storm. I have pavers and had to set into concrete to keep from popping up. Never bothered to read why that happens
