Found two sets with the regular tools, no tag on the peg. Rang up $7, not shown on their website as being at that store.

Maybe other Channellock stuff discontinued and sitting on WM shelves?

On a minor side note - notice that 1/2" difference in how far the handles were dipped - is that typical of CL?

Checked my local Wallyworld, the only Channellocks they had were slip grooves for full price.

I've seen a dramatic drop in quailty control in ChannelLock pliers in the past year or so. I've been buying CLs for decades. But the last several I bought went back to the factory for what they called "eCoating over applied". They sent me back replacements that were the same or worse.

Does it affect the ability to grab an object? No.

Does it indicate that someone isn't paying attention? Yes.

More important, does it indicate that they really aren't interested in fixing the problem? I think so.

The jaws are soft on the Channellock diagonal cutters. I bought a set of 338s a few months ago and returned them because the jaws started to wear out after just a couple of weeks. I have a pair of Knipex 8" cutters now and they are noticeably better in terms of jaw hardness.

If you're planning to use these long-term I'd look at Klein or Knipex over Channellock.

None of my CL pliers would make a perfectionist happy. Some are more functional than others but I've dikes which don't line up, needle nose that the serrations don't line up, one side is slanted relative to the other but not bent on either jaw, etc. I'd be happy if I had a fully functional pliers with a little handle not dipped.

CL pliers are never meant to be top tier they are good but look at the equivalent Knipex and be happy about your handles.
