What is the intended application for linesman pliers? I have a pair of Armstrongs I bought awhile back but I never use them much.

Well the wire cutters are one of the best I've seen. The cutting edge is sharp enough to slice paper. That's a good enough use for me at $13.73 lol

I actually asked a co-worker this same question today, and his reply was "Mostly working with fencing unless you are an actual electric company guy up on the power line fixing something."

Not so sure that's right on or not.

I tend to reach for them when working with romex or other wiring tasks. I'm not an electrician so i'm not sure if this is where they shine.

Yes, they are good for general cable/wire cutting. I've also used them for cutting hogwire fencing, that sort of thing. They are also just good general-purpose, heavy-duty pliers for any number of tasks. I often grab one of my pairs instead of regular pliers, particularly if I'm carrying a bunch of tools out to some task and am on foot, don't want to take along five pairs of different pliers, just the linesmen pliers stuck in my back pocket.

They are not as good as side-cutters for heavier-gauge wire, or so I have found. But for most wire they are great.

Still 17.50 [Knipex] at Epstein's.

Knipex at Epstein is another good option especially for those of you who don't have the discounted Channellocks in your Lowes
