Any word on if Channellock will ever release a version of the wrench pliers Knipex has? I wouldnt mind having some Knipex in the cart but I am a Channellock person myself. Dont know if there would be a patent issue or not.

Why not just buy the knipex Pliers Wrench what is a channellock person? I am a mechanic and have tools from numerous manufacturers. I do like to buy mostly Ritchie yellow jacket tools for refrigeration but have bought testo and appion refrigeration tools also

Channellock makes the 415 which is a smooth jaw pliers, but the jaws do not stay parallel when opening and closing like the Knipex pliers wrench. The jaws never seem to land flat across both flats of a fastener. YMMV.

A Channellock person is one who prefers to buy Channellock.

I agree that smooth jaw groove joint pliers don't ever seem to land flat across both wrench flats, but that's not by necessity, it is by [poor] design.

For each groove, there is a single handle angle in all groove joint pliers where the jaws are parallel. If someone made one of these with smooth jaws:

and cut the ratcheting notches 1/16" apart for SAE or 1mm apart for a metric version, it could be optimized so that it lands parallel on standard sized fasteners, without needing a true parallel action. I've seen that design used in smooth jaw ratcheting Stillson wrenches, but never in pliers.

Still, I use my Knipex Pliers wrenches on more than just fasteners. Their parallel action actually makes them great for metal working, pressing small things, and other odd jobs aside from just turning stuff.

Yes. That is what I was trying to say in my original comment. :)

A video that mentions the Knipex pliers wrench VS the Channellock 415, links starts at the 3:06 mark:

I don't think the Channellock 415 were ever intended to be a pliers-wrench, just simply smooth jaw pliers. The OEM equivalent to putting tape over your toothed jaw pliers. Not something one would need frequently though. I've used mine for compressing nylon inserts to fertilizer hubs and they worked adequately for that. Knipex might have been even better for my application if I owned them though.

Point is I think we're comparing oranges to lemons here. The 415 is not an orange.

Close minded is a sure way to miss out on some really good tools. Plus one brand doesn’t make tools for all projects.

Agreed, did say I wouldnt mind some knipex in the cart. Just have a lot of channelock stuff and would stick with them if they offered. If they don't or aren't going to then I will get the Knipex. Channelock hit the works good enough and price is good when I started sweet spot. Aside from the wrench aspect the wrench pliers with smooth jaws look like they'd bend up sheet metal well enough.

+1 The jaws have to open parallel for it to work. There knockoffs like the NWS ones that don't open parallel and are functionally useless in comparison. Otherwise you might as well buy a regular pair of water pump pliers and grind the teeth flat.

The knipex pliers wrenches are definitely nice but honestly all I end up using mine for is pressing out roll pins!
